Area MeetingsGood News Announcements…

Program…

President Greg stated that we should all read the Cal StateMagazine and that recently it has noted our ownand also mentions the Hall of Fame inductees including several ofour own Rotary members.

President Greg also noted the 11 Annual Valley Fever BenefitGolf Tournament coming up on May 21 at Bakersfield CountryClub, and the upcoming Golf Classic Tournament benefitingGarces High School on April 23 .

announced a “news blast” – Cingular Wireless isnow AT&T (who knew??) – and then added that he had a four-packof tickets for the AT&T suite at the Condors game.

made announcements on behalf of the Scholar-ship Committee, and mentioned the Valley FeverVaccine Project and the May 21 Golf Tournament.

introduced, Choir

Director of the Liberty HighSchool Choir who in turnintroduced the fabulous LibertyHigh School Chorale mem-bers. Mr. McQuerrey discussedthe importance of keepingthese valuable music programsin our public schools, despitelegislative movements and pressures. The arts are floundering inthe schools due to testing requirements mandated by legislatorsaccording to Mr. McQuerrey. He went on to say that the arts aren’tmandated to be tested, so they are often perceived by many to beless valuable. These programs and they not onlybenefit the students, but our community at-large. He asked forassistance from Bakersfield leaders, like ourselves, to continue tosupport these efforts in the school systems.

The LHS Choir under Mr. McQuerrey’s direction, has beenidentified as one of the top high school choral groups in Californiafor the last seven years. They also have the honor of performing onMay 23 in New York City at Carnegie Hall.

These talented young people then treated us to four wonderfulmusical numbers. The first number was in Latin, the second was aspiritual number from the South, followed by a gospel piece includ-ing two female soloists. The final number ending the concert was abeautiful faith-based number in “surround sound” with the entirechoir surrounding the walls of our meeting room and our mem-bers, with clasped hands and raised voices.
