Auroville School Complex

School system is Auroville were very different. Unlike other states, all schools in Auroville were situated at a large School Complex. Their structure and functions were also very different. There were many Schools, some of them are documented by me.

Schools

• The Pyramids• New Era Secondary School• After School• Super School Building• The Last School

The Pyramids

It was previously the Pyramid Art Centre, now it has been allotted to New Era Secondary School (NESS) for use as science laboratories.

It was Designed By Architect : Roger Anger

The basic shape of building was pyramid.

There were small gaps between every pyramid roof.

The structure was load bearing structure.Material used was Ferro Cement.Small Gaps between roof was covered by glass so that it can enlighten the building. Very less artificial lights were installed in this school.

Previously it was the Auroville Language Laboratory, now it is planned for use by New Era Secondary School (NESS) as a complex of classrooms. It was designed by Architect Roger Anger

New Era Secondary School

The shape of structure was like mushroom.

The Curves of the buildings were smooth. The material used was Ferro Cement. Door was 4.5 inches (130 mm) above the ground.

The roof was made by Ferro Cement. There were 4 gaps which were covered by glass and made window so that enough light can pass and lighten the building.

These structures are hollow and were made using chicken mash and Ferro cement. This hollow structure traps heat inside them and make interior cool.

Super School BuildingIt is now allotted for eventual use by Deepam and for evening classes in Tamil, though before that it will be used by New Era Secondary School. It was designed by Architect Anupama Kundoo.

The roof and side elevation were esthetically appealing. The rectangular shape of roof are in harmony.

The Last SchoolIt was known as The Last School, but now it is known as Progress Landscape. It is located near the Aspiration Community. This building is planned to be used as an educational facility dealing with landscaping. It was again designed by Architect Roger Anger

The main structure was again made by Ferro Cement. It is curved and was made hollow so that it could trap heat and make interior cool. This amazing structure was made in 1971.

Entrance is made slightly inside followed by hollow walls made by Ferro cement.

The Amphitheater

The roof is made by pre-fabricated fiber. This roof mainly reflects the direct sunlight and keeps the interior cool. Also there are inlets for water channels which is used in rain water harvesting.

Many beautiful sculptures, installation and decorative were found near the building improving its landscape beauty vastly.

The landscape around the last school is pretty awesome. Due to great landscape around this building, it will be used to teach about landscaping designs.

Thank You
