PROJECT B1

FIRST YEAR

Villa Woopie is accordingly to the predefined parcel spacious and open. It has five levels shifted horizontally in different directions in order to achieve a variety of spacial qualities and opportunities throughout the whole building.

The Interior is generous and open, the almost entirely glazed facade makes sure the light is consequently distributed throughout the house during the day.

The outdoor areas as well as the shared spaces and working areas are on the south/west side of the villa where the facade opens itself to reveal a panorama view of the river. The bedrooms and private areas on the north/east side are relatively closed in order to achieve a more intimate atmosphere.

Green walls, plant beds and wood elements are a major part of the interior and exterior, as they loosen the atmosphere of the harshly geometric architecture, bringing life into the otherwise almost en-tirely made out of concrete and glas building.

THIRD YEAR project title:building type:

Gradient Zeroresidential/researchmobile2

The Gradient Zero project is a vision for a flying airship-like re-search facility over the Alps. Its purpose is to study the effects of global warming on the glaciers, flora and fauna in the region.

The SkyShard is composed of two components - the envelope and the research/living module. It is able to stay aloft by having a large rigid envelope filled with lifting gas (helium) that is less dense than the surrounding air.

It is entirely powered by re-newable energy sources which enables it to stay in the air for months if neces-sary. This is achieved using a combination of microgen-eration technology and low-energy building techniques.
