Tools to Train Your Dog

• Commitment

• Time (20-30 minutes per day)

• Patience

• Training collar

• Leather leash

• Treats

Training Collar and Leash• Training collar

• Place correctly around dog’s neck• “P” shape over head and on to dog’s neck

• Leather Leash• Leather is easier on hands• Chain leashes are dangerous

Treats

• Your dog receives lots of praise and a treat when he models the correct behavior.

• A treat can be Food A favorite ball or toy Play time

Keep in Mind• When you are with your dog, you do one

of two things:

You train him or You untrain him

Handler Correct Position• Stand up straight• Dog on left side• Leash in left hand• Right arm by side

Example: “Duke, heel” and step forward with left foot

Step out with left foot
