Welcome to Parade Season for El Jebel! Our
Nobles, ladies and units gathered together for the
Commerce City Parade this past Memorial Day to
kick off Parade Season in excellent form and spirit!
Our units were well represented, and the people of
Commerce City came out to enjoy El Jebel’s partici-
pation. Over the next few weeks we have some great
parades for you to come out and support your Shrine.
We get started with the Johnstown Parade on June 2,
followed by a lunch arranged by the Dune Buggies at
the Old Mine Cidery & Brew Pub, 500 Briggs St.,
Erie, CO. June 15 – 16 will be our annual outing to
Salida for the Fib-Ark parade where we will gather
with the Nobles of Al Kaly Shrine. On July 4 we
will journey to Brush for another great parade.
There will be many opportunities for you to get in-
volved with your Shrine and introduce friends,
Brothers and family to the fun we have as Shriners!
On June 30 we will have our first Ceremonial for
2018 as we will gather to welcome new Nobles and
their ladies into our Shrine. We encourage all our
units to come out and greet the new Nobles and show
them all the opportunities to have fun and get in-
volved with El Jebel. We will have tables setup for
the non-parade units and we will reserve the area in
front of the Shrine Center for the parade units to
show off how they represent El Jebel at parades. The
morning will get started at 9:30 am with breakfast,
followed by the Ceremonial, the unit preview and a
light lunch. Help us make this a fun day and one that
the new Nobles and their ladies will remember!
Some of us are traveling to the Western Slope to
support the Western Colorado Shrine Club at their
2018 Circus on June 1. This is always a great event
and we have a good time supporting our brother No-
bles. Earlier in the year we had the pleasure of join-
ing with the Nobles of WCSC at the IHOP Pancake
Day. Joe Kent, Ed Hamm and I took donations from
El Jebel and helped greet the people of Grand
Junction on February 27. I am very pleased to report
that the Grand Junction IHOP generated donations of
$6,482 for the Shriners Hospital for Children. It was
just reported that the efforts of the WCSC and El
Jebel made us come in FIRST for all Shrines in the
US, based on average dollars per store! Hopefully
we will someday get all of the IHOP’s in Colorado
involved again for our Hospitals, but for now we can
be proud of coming in first place for a single store!
Nobles, we need your help in supporting this year’s
Sportsmen’s Raffle. There are multiple ways for you
to get involved in making our Raffle a financial suc-
cess. As you know, this is our only fundraiser and it
is critical to El Jebel for it to be successful. If each
El Jebel Noble would buy/sell just two Raffle ticket
books, the overall revenue would exceed $200,000.
This year we have also started selling 50/50 Raffle
tickets prior to the day of the Raffle. So far, these
sales have exceeded $3,000 and the pot will grow
substantially by Raffle day. Each Noble should have
a supply of Raffle and 50/50 tickets in their posses-
sion to sell to your friends, Brothers, co-workers and
family. Just as important, we need Nobles and their
ladies to volunteer to help sell tickets at various Bass
Pro stores and other locations on select weekdays
and weekends. Noble Perry Mittler is coordinating
our sales teams and he needs your involvement. Non
-Parade units are especially encouraged to get your
members involved in this effort. Perry can be
reached at (303) 437-0287 or perry-
mi@comcast.com. Let’s join hands and make this
year’s Sportsmen’s Raffle an overwhelming success!

Hawaii Returns to El Jebel
Our May 2018 meeting was a marvelous Hawaiian fami-
ly night celebration beginning with a catered dinner
served in the Imperial Auditorium and Member Lounge.
The evening began in the Lounge with pina coladas, liba-
tions of your choice and great camaraderie. When enter-
ing for the evening’s events, everyone was adorned with a
lei and offered a drink of their choice by a Noble specifi-
cally selected by the Chief Rabban to ensure skillful prep-
aration. Divan members were presented with a replace-
ment “Fez,’ a straw hat resembling that worn on Gilli-
gan’s Island. This sure made our Divan easy to identify.
Conversations and jokes with witty endeavors ran rapid
until it was time for the buffet dinner to be served. The
dinner was especially Hawaii with salad, main course of
ham, pineapple, fried rice with little spam squares, peas,
corn and for dessert a cheese cake with pineapple. Our
Chief Rabban greeted all with his “charm and grace.” Our
Chaplain, Jim Oliver opened the formalities of the evening
with a heartfelt invocation followed by our Master of Cer-
emonies, Gary Loberg, leading in the Pledge of Alle-
giance to the Flag of our Nation. Seventy-four Nobles,
ladies and family members attended the gala evening.
Gary Loberg introduced the dignitaries attending, begin-
ning with our Past Potentates: Illustrious Sirs Jack Patten,
Amer Plaisted, Jim Fitzpatrick, Ed Rendon and Matt Raia;
then Past Imperial Chaplain, Greg Rendone; Scottish Rite
Denver Consistory Secretary and York Rite Right Emi-
nent Grand Recorder, Matt Raia and York Rite Grand
Royal Arch Chapter, Grand Council of Cryptic Masons,
Grand Commandery Knights Templar Treasurer, Steve
Hubbard. Introductions were followed by a welcoming
applause.
Nobles Bobby Marner, Bill Schwartz, and Perry Mittler
gave updates on our Fundraising Events.
The Sportsmen’s Raffle had taken in $6,100 to date with
an additional $65 Sellers Tickets. The 50/50 had received
$2,600. The Raffle will be 25 August 2018 at the Douglas
County Fair Grounds. El Jebel Units and Clubs will be at
the Raffle with their unique raffle prizes: some of which
are Optars, a drone; T-Nobles, 250 pounds of Pig cut to
your desire; Chanters, Furrion 95W Solar Panel Kit; Prov-
ost Guard, $750 Bass Pro Card; and Dune Buggy Patrol,
$500 credit for Edwards Meats used as you desire with no
time limits. The Craft Fair and Cowboy Christmas will be
26-28 October 2018 also at the Douglas Fair Grounds.
Vendors are needed to make this event successful. Should
you know any vendors, make a concerted effort to have
them join the event with their wares.
This was followed by the viewing of three Imperial
Shriners PSA’s that are available to anyone. The first was
“More Than a Fraternity” that shares what Shriners are
about. The next was the “Mexico Celebration” that em-
phasized the Global nature of Shriners and then Shriners
Hospitals for Children (SHC) message featuring “Shriners
Children” speaking about their experiences within the sys-
tem.
Noble Ron Williamson spoke about the upcoming John-
stown Parade and that all Nobles and family are asked to
join together for lunch at the Old Mine Restaurant in Erie,
Colorado. This will be a time of celebration leading to the
24 September 2018 SHC Fundraiser at the Old Mine Res-
taurant. We hope all Nobles will put this fundraiser on
their calendar and make it even better than last year’s
event.

families may add them to their calendars:

El Jebel membership. What a great time everyone had by
uniting as brothers and family for an evening of relaxa-
tion, food, drink and camaraderie. We are a Fraternity
dedicated to philanthropy and fun. The fun comes from
your continuing participation in all El Jebel events. Don’t
miss out! Look at the schedule above and mark your cal-
endar to be there. These are your benefits offered to you
as a participating member. Please don’t sit on the side

WESTERN CO SHRINE CLUB
By Steve Thomas
We are looking forward to fun and fellowship of the
upcoming parade season. I'm sure we will be having
fun; we are that type of unit. Good camaraderie was
had at our last Burgers and Beers gathering (Others
may call it a unit meeting). At that time, we decided
on custom cooler covers for parades. We'll be styling
soon. See you at the next parade!
If you are a Noble seeking fun and fellowship,
come join us! We are a fun loving bunch looking for
like minded parade and social members. To join or
for more information about the "Cooler Nobles", con-
tact Ken Jones at 303.588.4785 or
kjpm2006@gmail.com
WCSC Shrine Clowns:
We are in full circus mode at this time. By the time y'all
read this the 73rd Annual Western Colorado Shrine Cir-
cus will be over. The clowns try to help out on this pro-
ject as much as we can. It is great to meet the kids and
their families and enjoy the circus acts all at the same
time.
Then we hit the parade season big time. Our first parade
is Crawford June 9th line up at 9am and that is a good
short practice parade to get the little cars all set for the
season. Then there is Glenwood Strawberry Days June
15th 9am lineup. Eagle Flight Days June 23rd at 9am
lineup.
We welcome a new clown Jim "Gassie" Ditmore. He
says he picked that name for all the time he served with
California southern gas company. That's his story and
he's sticking to it. Looking forward to seeing him in the
little Model T fire truck this year.
WCSC Tri-County:
At our April meeting we had 19 in attendance. Shriners
and their ladies and some guests, Jacki and my daughter
and her husband Jeni and Micky Vogt. Walt and Linda
invited their daughter Tonni again and a good time was
had by all. Jacki Thomas won the 50/50 cash and is going
to use it to fix the potholes in front of our house. Our
Pres. Gary Weiszbrod won the door prize (there otta be a
law against that).
We met May 19th at Viva Mexico in Montrose and had
another good showing with 17 members and guests. We
had the honor of a visit from Bill Kledas and his lady
Nikki. Bill is a very active Mason, I can't begin to list all
of his talents. Past Master of Montrose Lodge #63, Past
Grand Lecture, Grand Marshall, Chief cook and bottle
washer.
Sky Fairlamb won the 50/50 cash prize and is going to
remodel downtown Delta (That's Colorado not Utah)
with it. Yours truly won the door prize which is a beauti-
ful hummingbird feeder and patio oil lamp (not in one
unit). Now I gotta go borrow something for next month.
In June we will meet with Montrose Lodge #63 for their
annual cookout on June 30th because of all the parades
going on in June and we just happen to have an extra Sat-
urday in there too. This will be at the Montrose Elks
Lodge at 801 S. Hillcrest Drive.
We are holding off on any further dates until we see the
parade schedule for the year, just for the clowns in the
group that may like to parade.
Legion of Honor
by Don Phelps
We are already dark for the summer. Our Commander,
(Ed Richards) had heart surgery and is in rehab. We will
be at the parades (hopefully) all summer. We are short
of people that can march. Most of us are old, like me,
and can't march anymore. If you are a veteran or on ac-
tive duty, we need you to carry a flag in the pa-
rades. Call me if you need more information at 303-471
-2481. HELP!!!

Caring Ladies
By Jeanne Thompson
A somewhat boisterous meeting of Caring Ladies of El
Jebel was held on May 9 at the Chateau Restaurant. A
new member, Gladine Dracon was welcomed as was
Chaplain Jim Oliver, Divan Representative. Miss Kitty
made her usual rounds, collecting funds for the Shrine
Travel Fund.
We are widows of Shriners and Free Masons who gath-
er on the second Wednesday of each month for good
friendships and good food. We meet at 11:30 am, order
from the menu or specials, have a short business meeting
and mainly enjoy each other's company and companion-
ship. Our Divan Representative brings us up-to-date on
happenings and events at the El Jebel Shrine. If you or
someone you know would like to join us for a look-see,
please call Kay Bell, 303-430-9001 so we will know how
many chairs to put at the table. You are not only wel-
come to come, but encouraged to at least visit us for
lunch on June 13. If you need a ride, either Kay or our
president, Carolyne Irwin, 303-986-3237, will be happy
to find a member who lives near you and who would be
happy to give you a lift. Please come!
Sports
By Greg Rindone
It’s been kind of quiet in the Sports Car corner this last
month but coming up we have a couple of parades we are
going to. The next parade coming up will be the Com-
merce City Parade on May 28 and then the Johnstown Pa-
rade June 2. Let’s have a great turnout. Kent Eckley had
knee surgery the first part of May; we all wish him a quick
recovery. We held our May meeting at the Blue Bonnet
and had some delicious Mexican food. I overheard that
Nancy was having a birthday, a happy birthday goes out to
Hos’s daughter Nancy. We had 7 Nobles and 4 ladies in
attendance. We discussed the parades and meeting places
and times, we also discussed this summer parties/
meetings. Hos will be having us at his place June 30 and
the Cusick-Rindone’s are having the Sports over for what
seems like the annual steak fry on August 5. John Kesig
is going to plan a trip to the New Plantation for their Ca-
jun Boil first part of September, date TBD and once we
know the date we will get it out to everyone. Mark your
calendars so you will not miss out on the fun.
Englewood Shrine Club
by Don Phelps
We needed to cancel our May meeting because our
president (Kent Eckley) was just out of the hospital re-
covering from knee replacement. We wish him well in
his recovery. We hosted the reception after the funeral
for long time member, past president, Bob Briscoe. Mo-
na Eckley prepared the food. Bob and Wanda Stretch and
Don and Joyce Phelps assisted.
We are considering going to the Comedy Club on Au-
gust first. We are a social unit and like to have fun. If
you would like to have more information contact me at
303-471-2481. If I don't answer leave a message and I
will get back to you.
The Kops have begun to ease into the summer
parade season with the Commerce City Memorial Day
Parade. In addition to this parade the Kops filled the
month with the normal Kops stuff, Derby Days, the
Shrine meeting, and Kop’s Meeting. Yes, in addition, a
few of the Kops did show up in Grand Junction to work
the El Jebel Shrine Circus, Western Colorado Shrine Club
version.
We have been working this year to combine into
the El Jebel Motor Corps. This is made up of the Motor
Patrol, Keystone Kops and the Jeep Patrol. The idea be-
hind this was to combine these three relatively small units
into one umbrella unit. Each of the three will retain their
own Name, Uniforms, and Equipment. By having the
membership of all three units working as one we will be
able to provide stronger support for the units, larger at-
tendance at socials, and much more coordinated support
for El Jebel.
The Kops had several Nobles and their Ladies at
the second El Jebel Derby Days in the afternoon of May
5th. Derby Days was a hoot, food, drink, and fellowship,
great time.
A couple of the Kops bopped over the hills to
work with the Western Colorado Shrine Club on their cir-
cus in Grand Junction. We were at the Mesa County Fair-
grounds for all four performances before returning home.
This circus is an outdoor circus; which is something dif-
ferent being out in the weather after all these years at the
indoor Denver Circus. This year everyone lucked out and
the weather was great for Spring-time in Colorado. We
had a wonderful time working the circus and visiting with
our men and women on the western slope.
We have a parade scheduled for Johnstown on 2
June. This is an early morning outing, hope to see every-
one there. See you at the next meeting, June 28th.

NORTHEAST Colorado Shrine Club
by Jerry Wardrip, Secretary Our May meeting started at about sun rise and was very
well attended. One advantage to this early morning stuff,
we are usually treated to a gorgeous sun rise and this
morning was no different. A few clouds have gathered off
to the east and as the sun comes up they are getting a great
highlight.
Our president Noble Gerald Thorndyke called the
meeting to order and Noble Robert Elsloo offered the
prayer. The minutes of our last gathering were reviewed
and approved as printed. Noble Earl Craddock gave the
treasurer’s report, which was accepted as reported. Noble
Jerry Wardrip informed us that the permits for this year’s
fireworks sales have been applied for. The new sales tax
license has been received.
We are gearing up to open June with this year’s
Northeast Colorado Pasture Degrees at Akron. As usual
we will have a great breakfast and we will close with a
great lunch. Sterling will be cooking. The High Plains
Rendezvous will follow on June 23 and will be here in
Sterling and right during our fireworks sale. We plan on a
busy summer with everything planned. We always say
“We go dark for the summer” but I think we just dim the
lights a little.
Everyone seems to be in good health this month. Just a
few bumps and bruises.
The Chief Rabban, Noble Bobby Marner visited us this
morning for breakfast and talked about getting things back
together after all the changes and interruptions from mov-
ing to the new El Jebel HQ. He also talked about this
year’s Sportsmen’s Raffle and the new 50/50 raffle, and
left us with tickets to sell.
As the sun was now up above the horizon and the
day was looking brighter, and we seem to have covered all
our necessary business it was now time to move on to the
rest of our day. The president Gerald Thorndyke closed
the meeting at about 7:35 AM with peace and harmony
prevailing.
You know that you all have a standing invitation to
come out and meet with us the second Monday of each
month here at the Overland Trail Café at the Atwood in-
terchange at 6:00 A.M. That is the Sinclair Station at Exit
115 off I-76. Good food and Great Fellowship.

Sandblasters of El Jebel---
by Claude Akridge
The last Sandblaster meeting was held Wednesday,
April 25th at 11:30 AM at the Golden Corral located at
West Hampden Ave. @ South Santa Fe Drive.
President Randy opened the meeting with the Pledge of
Allegiance and PP Jack Patten led the prayer. Dan
Kamunen read a nice note that Susan Boles sent to the
Sandblasters about the gift from the Sandblasters. Susan,
you deserve it, we don’t know what we would do without
your help.
III Sir Rich Silver (our Divan Rep) brought us up to
date on the coming events at El Jebel. The Sportsmen’s
Raffle and the 50/50 was discussed and we all were en-
couraged to buy and sell the books and chances. We have
always had a table at the Sportsmen’s Raffle and plans for
this year's Raffle are not complete and need to be soon.
We were pleased to have Jerry Womack come visit and
have lunch with us. Jerry has played golf with us in the
past and was a member of the Duffers. Come again Jerry,
we would be happy to have you as a member.
On a sad note we learned that Roland Muhrer's wife of
70 plus years, Nell, passed away in March. Our thoughts
and prayers go out to Roland and his family. They were
great Sandblaster members.
The June golf outings are June 7th @ Buffalo Run---
June 15th @ Eastern Start-- June 21st @ Westwoods.
You can sign up on the website when the notice comes or
call Jim Teagarden (303-422-5637)
Please remember, we meet the last Wednesday of the
month so come have lunch with us and play golf at our
outings.
Dune Buggy Patrol
By Don Weiser
It’s June and summer is almost upon us. As I write this
article, I reflect on the Memorial Day weekend and why
we celebrate this holiday. We are thankful for all the sacri-
fices that our Military have made to keep our Country free
and allow us to celebrate. The Commerce City Memorial
Day parade was once again a wonderful day with 8 Dune
Buggy’s in attendance. The day started with cool temps in
the early morning and some light mist, but warmed up
nicely for the parade. It was great to see our newest mem-
ber, Tom Mehsling, out with his car. Thanks to all that
came out to show our colors!
Following the parade, we gathered at Jim N Nicks BBQ,
at Northfield. We were joined with the new Shrine Unit,
the Coolers and later with the T Nobles. A great time of
socializing was had by all.
Our May meeting, on May 9th, was well attended. Nor-
mal business was attended to. There was discussion about
needing to find someplace to hold some practice for our
parade maneuvers and this will continue to be researched.
The Dune Buggy Patrol will once again do a table at the
annual Sportsman’s Raffle with our own Raffle of a
$500.00 Edwards Meats gift certificate.
Our June meeting will be held at the Garrison Bar and
Grill, 608 Garrison, on June 13th.

ROAMERS
By J & J Taylor
Here are 4 pictures of SOME of our group who went to
Candlelight Dinner Theater in April for our “meeting“.
We had 50 people, including the group headed up by Mo-
na Eckley from the Englewood Shrine Club!
On May 18th through the 20th we had fun in the rain at
Chatfield Reservoir. There will be pictures in the next
Red Fez if we can ever get through them all---over 60!
Fortunately Hepp’s and Kohlwey’s rigs were large
enough to hold us all.
The next outing will be in June at Winding River Resort
at Grand Lake. We had such fun there last time, we de-
cided to go again. This is a four-dayer, and will probably
involve some rain also (but we’re getting those leaks fig-
ured out). Five brave cowpokes signed up for the 2-hour
horseback ride up the mountain above the campground.
One of the J’s writing this article will be taking pictures.
So see you in the newspaper (and maybe the world-wide-
web!)
May is one of my two favorite months (the other being No-
vember) as it is allows the Band to acknowledge and honor
those who have made it possible to live free – our Veterans,
especially those who paid the ultimate price. There is nothing
that can be said or done which would adequately thank them for
the legacy they gave us – this greatest country to ever grace the
face of the earth. We started the month with two Honor Flight
returns. Tony Owens, one of our past Chieftains, was a guardi-
an on the Rocky Mountain Flight and assures everyone it was
an expression of admiration and respect for those who really
believe they “were just doing their job.” It is always amazing
how these men assumed that it was their responsibility to save
the world for democracy, no more or less so than going to the
store for a loaf of bread. Their humility is overpowering; their
gratitude for our meager attempts at expressing our undying
appreciation for what they did is beyond understanding. They
actually think we are doing them a favor. Several thanked the
volunteers for giving up their weekend and a few bucks to take
them to Washington. As if that were in any way comparable to
what they risked and gave up for several years, suffering untold
privation and hardship to allow us to speak English (rather than
German or Japanese).
Sadly there will soon be only one Honor Flight organization
in Colorado. The Northern Colorado Honor Flight (based out
of Ft. Collins) will make one final trip this fall – the organizer
and driving force behind it passed away a few weeks ago, and
there is no one to take up the slack. So that will leave it all up
to the local organization. Thankfully they are committed and
will continue to provide the service for a long time to come.
And, of course, the Band will always be there for the return
flights.
The Band also performed on Armed Forces Day at the Tribute
Garden ceremony in Westminster – a wonderful memorial gar-
den at 104th and Sheridan dedicated to military veterans. We
have had a presence at this event since its inception. At first, it
was a solo piper; now it is the entire Band. A little wet and
cool, but nothing compared to what some endured during their
time in the various services. We also helped the American Le-
gion working toward providing shelter for homeless veterans.
Just before the Memorial Day weekend we led a group of
proud high school seniors to their graduation ceremony in
Greeley. Yet another crop of youth is staged to take its place in
society. We wish them all the best of luck.
The Band wrapped up the month with the usual Memorial
Day ceremonies for the VFW at the Veterans Memorial in Lit-
tleton Cemetery and then again at the World War II Memorial
in Ketring Park. While it was not a particularly busy month, it
was a very fulfilling and rewarding month. It is always a privi-
lege and honor to be around such men as these. A heartfelt
“thank you” to all of them.
For any who are interested in joining in on all this fun, we are
at the Shrine almost every Thursday evening at 1900. Come on
out and join us.

A Clown's Code of Ethics
Yes, there is a Code of Ethics for clowns. Some people
might think clowns are out-of-control and could care less
about much, much less have a code of ethics to follow. I
need to tell you that I am limited on space; therefore,
some of the items below are paraphrased. I think you
will understand them, however!
Here are the "Seven Clown Commandments":
1. I will keep my acts and performances in good taste
when I am "in clown." I have accepted an expecta-
tion to provide others, especially children, with
good, clean entertainment. I will remember that a
good Shriner clown entertains others by making fun
of himself and not at the expense or embarrassment
of others.
2. I will carry out my appearance and assignment for
the entertainment of others and not for personal gain.
I will always try to remain anonymous, although
there may be circumstances when this is not easy to
do.
3. I will abstain from drinking alcohol and smoking
while "in clown." Also, I will conduct myself as a
gentleman and not interfere with other acts, events,
spectators or individuals.
4. I will remove my makeup and costume, and I'll get
into my street clothes as soon as possible follow-
ing an appearance so that I cannot be associated with
any incident which may be detrimental to the good
name of clowning.
5. While "in clown", I will carry out the directives of
designated people and abide by all performance rules
without complaint in public.
6. I will do my very best to maintain the best clown
standards of makeup, costuming and comedy.
7. I will appear in as many clown
shows as I can.

The Potentate has a trip planned during September to tour
the newly dedicated World War II Museum in New Orle-
ans. Those who have visited the Museum report that it is
very meaningful and something everyone should see.
Everything is a ‘go’ for the Annual Picnic on June 20th
at Fairmount Park. We will enjoy BBQ, horseshoes, cot-
ton candy, beer and pop. Look for the notice for details
of this special occasion.
Congratulations to Gary and Becky Jewell who will
celebrate their 52nd Wedding Anniversary on June 20th.
Chapin Blake reported that he has moved to a new fa-
cility in Golden. The Blakes volunteered for many years
delivering magazines to Lutheran Hospital.
Jack Russell announced plans to again conduct a con-

The V.I,P's had their monthly social at the FLYING
PIG. Vivian and I were not able to attend, I was told eve-
ryone enjoyed the luncheon, and it was well attended. The
MEMORIAL DAY PARADE was great, the rain waited
until late afternoon. We had 5 cars represented. Some of
the Shriner's met at Mickey's for lunch and drinks after
the parade.
We have had to make a change in the scheduling for our
next social, due to a conflict of schedules. Our next social
will be hosted by Phil and Gloria Covarrubias, on June
20th. Our Summer V.I.P. Party is being move to Septem-
ber 23rd. and will be held back at Wayne and Vivian's
house this year. The planning committee decided it would
be not as hot in September and more enjoyable. More de-
tails later. Johnstown Parade is June 2nd.
We have a very busy summer so keep up on all the ac-
tivities in the Red Fez. Remember we are all Masons first,
keep it on the square and on the level.

Didja know?
by ejgw
T here is an old saying that behind every successful man
there is a woman. And there should be an old saying that
reflects the idea of behind successful organizations there
are women who keep the wheels turning. You all know
about Susie, but there is another driving force in the of-
fice. Tommy Lloyd was a successful Shriner and a be-
loved brother to all in El Jebel. The woman behind him is
also one of the main cogs in the machine that is El Jebel,
Barbara Lloyd. Born in Rhinelander, WI and after gradu-
ating from Rhinelander Union High, she made her way to
Washington DC via the FBI (yes, of J. Edgar fame and no,
she wasn’t a pistol-packin’ agent). Fate somehow got her
into the Air Force Data Systems Design Center (sorta like
the Finance and Accounting offices of the good ole AF)
where with the help of a desk she met the aforementioned
Tom Lloyd. Seems as how he was either more interested
or less reserved than she, but the story goes that he
climbed up onto her desk to “introduce” himself. We
would guess the introduction went well as they were hap-
pily married with four children, nine grandchildren, and
two great-grandchildren.
Barb was accomplished in her own right as Queen of the
Daughters of the Nile. When not helping to keep our
house in order, she keeps busy reading and doing embroi-
dery. She also collects things crystal, like small boxes and
ornaments. She says she was very shy until she met Tom
(which might explain the necessity of his scaling her desk
to “gain” her attention), but she is proud of the fact they
raised their children to be helpful to others and hard work-
ers.
One of Barb’s bucket list items is to ride the Oregon
Trail in a wagon. That would definitely be an experience
– one that is often dreamed of by many others. But didja
know that the Lloyd’s used to live down southeast closer
to the new Shrine Center? She spent so much time at El
Jebel that she sold her home there and moved closer to our
beloved building near the golf course, just before the sale
and move south. Talk about bad timing!

OPTARS
By J & J Taylor
The Optars met at the Kennedy Golf Course Restaurant
for dinner before the meeting. We’re happy they are now
open for the season!
President Ron Dunsmore opened the meeting with seven
members in attendance. Business plans included the June
3 “Zoo-Op”---see more below. Incidentally, Marty
Youngman’s memorial will be at 2:00 that same day in
Arvada. (For more info call Taylors.)
The program for this night was photographing HU-
MANS, specifically the Williamsons’ Grandchildren, Syd-
ney and Austin (see pictures). We practiced on lighting,
until Ron tripped on the cord to Thayne’s flood light.
Then we practiced on “shooting in the dark”!
Every year, Optars has an “Optarama”, which involves a
special “shoot” on one month and a showing of those pic-
tures at a meeting afterwards. Our President has set a date
of June 3rd at the Denver Zoo for the Optarama pictures.
You’ll want to see some of these great animal (and maybe
human!) pictures---be sure to come to the Optarama, usu-
ally held in November. On June 3rd, we’ll be meeting at
the Giraffe House at 9:00 a.m. Bring a camera of any sort,
and prepare to have some fun.
Ed Hamm has more info on our table raffle item---a yel-
low drone! He will send a link to the flyers and a link to a
very interesting video on the flying of the drone. These
“crib sheets” help the helpless (us) on what can be done
with these things!
The next dinner meeting for Optars will be on June 5th
at Kennedy Golf Grill and the Shrine. Remember:
Optars is “dark” in July and August. But be sure to focus
on your summer and your many photo opportunities

Greetings Nobles and Ladies! This month I would like to start a tradition and showcase one of the new members of our group, Noble Jodi Dreher. I have asked him the fol-lowing questions so we can better understand the ‘Man Behind the Fez.’.
Noble Juchem: Jodi, tell us a little about yourself and your wonderful family.
Noble Dreher: “My wife Megan and I have been married for over 15 years and we have three kids: Laila (13, going on 19), Malia (10), and Kai (8). The girls attend a per-forming arts-focused school here in Parker, where Laila is the school-wide go-to theater-tech person. Maila is working toward her black belt in Tae-Kwon-Do. Kai is involved with the Stephen Covey leadership program at his school and likes to do parkour (parkour is the sport of moving rapidly through an area, typically in an urban environment, negotiating obstacles by running, jumping, and climbing). Megan is finishing her business degree / schooling, which she took a break from when we got mar-ried, and she has begun helping more with our consult-ing / advisory business.
I grew up near Washington, D.C. where I played Division 1 rugby for George Mason University. I come from a large family of 4 brothers and 2 sisters. My wife and I both enjoy obstacle course racing (Spartan, etc.) and run-ning races (5k, 10k, half/full marathons, etc.). We've been serial entrepreneurs since we got married, but for the past several years I have been focused on advising private equity firms and Fortune 500 companies in various as-pects of their strategies.”
Noble Juchem: Why did you become a Freemason?
Noble Dreher: “There's a spiritual aspect to Freemasonry that transcends religious divides, but is so complementary and relevant to a diverse range of beliefs. The trowel, used to spread the cement of unity, is one of my favorite tools and symbols of the Masonic trade because it sug-gests we look for similarities between each other, instead of the seemingly insignificant ways that we're different. I became a Mason to be a part of and to further this idea, and to further immerse myself in the history and culture of ritual and symbolism.”
Noble Juchem: Why did you become a Shriner?
Noble Dreher: “My favorite job I've had in my life was as a hospital volunteer at Fairfax Inova Hospital in northern Virginia - where I was able to serve patients, hospital employees, and other volunteers. Becoming a Shriner is another opportunity to serve others in a mean-ingful way, and it's a nice relief from the "seriousness" of the Blue Lodge. I'm so impressed by the Shriners' mission - it's something I wanted to be a part of and support.”
T-Nobles
by Bobby Juchem
Noble Juchem What has been your experience so far as an El Jebel Shriner?
Noble Dreher: “I didn't fully understand the parade units / clubs and how the Shrine really operates until I joined. It's a great model, and the brotherly love of the T-Nobles club seems to be the epitome of Freemasonry - I'm so glad I joined (not just the Shrine, but the T-Nobles). All of the fantastic people I've met and have been reacquaint-ed with are my favorite part of being a Shriner, so far.
Brother Nobles, there you have it. A small glimpse of the ‘Man Behind the Fez’. Come by the T-Nobles and say hello to Noble Dreher and the rest of the Nobles and La-dies. On a personal note we could not be more proud of Noble Dreher. He is the epitome of what a Shriner should be and we look forward to working in the quarry with him, and of course ‘rocking the parades.’

Our May Session signaled the beginning of our summer
break for June, July and August. Our new Queen Kendy
and her Officers will be able to breathe a little easier, may-
be.
Our May Membership Coffee held at El Jebel on May
21st was a huge success. Several proposals were received,
and more members are on the horizon. A big “thank you”
to PQ Barbara Lloyd and Pr. Marianne Neff for their hard
work in making this event the success it was.
June 3rd is our White Rose Celebration honoring Queen
Kendy. We hope you will join us for this special event.
Also, please keep in mind the “Day at the Rockies” on Ju-
ly 15th. Your tickets can be purchased through PQ Jo Ann
Van Trump, at 303-232-3542. Deadline date for tickets is
June 15th. Better hustle!
Please don’t forget our bus to Black Hawk on Thursday,
June 14th. It’s a lot of fun, and everyone enjoys the trip.
Bus leaves at 10:00 a.m. from the north parking lot of
Highlands Masonic Temple.
I know it’s early, but it behooves me to mention our up-
coming El Mejdel Temple No. 47 90th Birthday Celebra-
tion on Tuesday, July 31, 2018; more to come on this
event, but mark your calendar.
El Mejdel is still selling sheet sets…twin, Full, Queen,
King or California King. They are $40.00/set, any size
and come in a multitude of colors. If you would like more
information, please contact PQ Carole Bolduc at 303-421-
0150 or Olducs@outlook.com. I will be glad to place an
order for you, and it will be shipped directly to your home.
Please be aware, there is a shipping charge of approxi-
mately $20.00.
We hope to see you at some of our upcoming
events and wish you all a safe and happy summer!
The plan is to have our next meeting on June 30th fol-
lowed by a bike work day/ practice.
We met this past Saturday on May 18th and had a great
turn out. Much was discussed as to the current needs and
direction of the unit.
I’m on the disabled list for the foreseeable future.
It’s enjoyable working with everyone involved with the
units specifically, and the Shrine as a whole. The contribu-
tion of everyone makes for a successful parade season.
Thank you in advance for stepping up within the unit as
to: Parade schedule, hauling the bike trailer, and coordi-
nating specifically our friend and brother; Divan Rep Ron
Williamson.
May Meeting: June 30th @ 8:00 am
Butcher Block Café: 4605 E 74th Ave, Commerce City,
CO 80022
We will practice after the meeting at the Shrine barn.
Dues: The unit dues are due, please remit your dues of
$30.00 to Don Kirby.
The trailer is ready to go with new tires, repacked bear-
ings, new tags, and ready to be hauled to parades. Our
units biggest need is commitment to hauling the bike trail-
er to parades.
Parades: At our last meeting we discussed going to more
parades, and we had excitement about more participation
by the members in the unit.
Current schedule thru July
May 28 Commerce City
June 2nd Johnstown with the Dune Buggy’s – Lunch at
the old Mine ****June social ********
July 4th - Brush
July 28th – Golden followed by a social at Don &
Mary’s
We have opportunities to participate in other parades.
August 11th Wheat Ridge
September 8 Arvada
September 15 Broomfield Parade / Cookout. Sweet.
Again the issue is pulling and loading and unloading the
trailer. The more unit members who are willing to help
haul and load and unload the bikes onto the trailer = more
parades.
If you are in a position to help with pulling the trailer,
you need to get a copy of your insurance card to Susan at
the office. Emailing it is fine.

HELP WANTED
I'm a member of El Jebel and I own a beverage
bottling and food packaging company. Currently I
have a brother and his wife in their mid/late
60's working for me and it's worked out quite
well. I need a few people for light part-time work
on the bottling line; doing such things as:
staging bottles on the conveyor
capping bottles with a capping tool
applying shrink sleeves
placing filled bottles in shipping cases
There is no heavy lifting or janitorial so I feel it's a
good job for a recent retiree looking for extra
cash. The line runs anywhere from 1 day to 4 days
per week generally 8 AM to 4:30 PM so there's a
lot of flexibility. No weekends or evenings. Com-
