Autumn in the NortheastRegions

What is your favorite season? Why?

Autumn in the Northeast

Autumn is a strong favorite for many people who live in the Northeast.

During September and October there is a change that comes over trees in the region.

There is lay daylight in autumn. The temperature falls and leaves stop making green pigment.

A pigment is a chemical that gives something color.

After only a few weeks of this beautiful color the leaves die and drop off the branches.

Why does the Northeast have a lot of forests?

The Northeast is close to the ocean and gets plenty of precipitation in every season.

Trees need a lot of water to grow.

Broadleaf Trees Broadleaf trees drop their leaves in

the winter. The leaves on such trees are mostly

wide. Maples, oaks, willows, and hickories

are examples. Most of these trees have hard wood

which is useful for furniture.

Needleleaf Trees The leaves on these trees are long

and thin, like needles. Their leaves do not change color in

autumn. They are also called evergreens. Pines, firs, and spruces are examples.
