Back to School Night

Welcome to

Third Grade!

Getting Started

Children begin to arrive @ 8:15 a.m.School begins @ 8:30 a.m.

Children prepare for the day:– unpack book bags, sharpen pencils, copy

homework, begin morning work

Our class will attend 8:30 a.m. mass 1-2 times monthly.– Children will need to arrive by 8:20 a.m.

Diversified Schedule

Our schedule is consistent yet varied to meet the needs of all children.

It incorporates a “working snack” at 10:00 a.m. daily to keep the

children’s energy level high and their minds sharp.

Strong emphasis on paragraph writingUse of graphic organizersUnderstanding of parts of sentences and parts of speech

HandwritingHandwriting is taught and practicedAlways using cursive

MathMorning Meeting-Calendar skills, telling time, thermometer use, patterning, problem solving, number play

Fact practice-Timed or untimed -Working toward automaticity in addition, subtraction, multiplication and division

Direct instruction-New skill taught daily-Usually use manipulatives

Guided practice -One page done in class(A), one for homework(B)

-No homework on nights when an assessment is given

Social StudiesStudy a variety of communities

Learn about explorers and inventors

Learn and practice map skills

Indentify and label continents and oceans

Quizzes, tests and projects all part of grade
