Dear Friend
As Mayor of Ards and North Down Borough Council, It gives me greatpleasure to welcome you to the prestigious 23rd Bangor InternationalChoral Festival. The Festival is one of the highlights of Bangor’s MusicalCalendar and gives much pleasure to all who attend both competitors andaudiences alike. The Festival attracts such a wide range of entrants andproduces such a variety of music, that it is very easy to understand why theFestival becomes bigger and better with every passing year.
Ards and North Down Borough Council is proud to be the major sponsorof the Festival. This year, we are, again, delighted to welcome choral groupsfrom the UK, ROI and indeed our own home grown talent from NorthernIreland. This year also sees an entry from a Russian Choir and we hope theyenjoy their experience and will return in years to come. For the first timewe welcome a choir from the Isle of Man who will compete in a newcompetition for Community Choirs. We look forward to listening to such avariety of performances and hope that these visits to Bangor and theBorough of Ards and North Down will be the first of many.
It is wonderful to see so many entries from the Schools Sections and toknow that the art of choral singing is being kept alive through the children. In particular it is good to see the involvement of the Special Schools section, which is always a highlight of the Festival and, again, a unique element whichensures that the Festival aim of inclusivity for all is maintained.
Bangor International Choral Festival could not take place without thededication and hard work of the Festival Organising Committee, which isongoing throughout the year and, to this end, I extend my gratitude to themfor their commitment and enthusiasm, which ensures that this prestigiousFestival remains a top class event year after year.
In concluding, may I offer all Choirs, competing this year, my best wishes andI look forward to a wonderful Festival of Music.
Yours sincerely
Alderman Alan GrahamMayorArds and North Down Borough Council
