INFORMATION BULLETIN No. 168.
Engine Log Book Supplement for MARPOL Annex VI
MARPOL Annex VI is coming onto force 1st July 2010 which requires the record keeping of the consumption and venting of ozone depleting substances (hydrochlorofluorocarbon refrigerant and air conditioning gas), Regulation12.3.2.6.
Due to the increasing number of such records being required by MARPOL and the limited amount of space available in Engine Log Books it is recommended that all such records be incorporated into a separate booklet: the Engine Log Book Supplement.
Attached is a template for such a ‘supplement’ which may be downloaded and printed for use or be used as a check against the operator’s own documentation meeting the MARPOL record keeping requirements.

BMSR wishes to thank Anglo Eastern Group ship managers who provided the idea on which this Bulletin is based.

The relevant recordkeeping entries are to be made under the following sections: SECTION 1: Bunker details - Date of supply, Port of supply, Grade, Density, Sulphur content, Quantity, etc.
SECTION 2: Tracking / Control Record for MARPOL Fuel Oil Samples.
SECTION 3: Details and record of custody transfer of an Annex VI sample, upon request, to a Port State Control Officer from a country that has signed up to the Annex VI protocol.
SECTION 4: Fuel Change Over Records for SECA / California ARB Regulations for Regulated California Waters (RCW) / EU Regulations Areas and other Emission Control Areas (ECAs).
