Barcode Label Maker

Quick Guide

This guide will show you how to create an ID card using information from an Excel spreadsheet and connecting it

to a program called Barcode Label Maker. After you are done with the cards, you can use the same program to

create a notebook of multiple IDs on regular paper in case a child forgets his/her ID.

When you first install Barcode Label Maker program, the default measurment is in centimeters. Change it to

inches. Under “Edit”, go to “Options” and select “Inch”.

2

Select “Label and Printer Setup”

Click “Printer and Paper Setup”

3

And select your Bar Code Printer (C30 Card Printer or C30E Card Printer) and select Landscape.

Enter the Standard Card Size which is 3.375" x 2.125" and make all the margins 0.

4

Connect your program to your Child ID.XLS spreadsheet.

Click File, and Import Data

Select “Files of type” the “Microsoft Excel Files” option

5

Find your file.

Click OK. Your spreadsheet is now associated. You can insert text or the barcode directly

from the spreadsheet.

6

You can insert a background picture if desired or just your logo.

Follow these steps to insert an object.

1) Click “Object” and insert the object you desire. In this case, click “Insert Picture”

2) Click once on the upper-left side of the card.

3) Bring your mouse down to the bottom-right side of the card and click once more.

4) Now double-click the object to modify. In this case, the picture of the tree that symbolizes an image.

7

If you have a picture larger than 3.5 inches or you are not sure, change the picture size to 2” x 2”. Then you can

visually resize it by grabbing the corners. If you are entering a logo or a photo, you can change the picture size to

1” x 1” and then visually resize it.

Now insert the child’s first name.

8

Click the same way as you did when you inserted a picture. You can select a color now or later.

Double-click the text.

9

Select “From DataGrid” the First Name from your spreadsheet. You can select the font and color now.

You can choose the “BN Sunday Kid” font if you installed it or the font and color of your choice.

10

Since we want the background behind the barcode to be white to have more contrast and to make the card easier to

scan, select a white background behind the barcode.

Insert the white rectangle. You can click “Border Style” to remove the border line, if you like.

Then insert the barcode.

Click the same way as before to insert an object. Then double-click the barcode.

Note: The width of the barcode cannot be changed. Only the height.

11

Select the BarCode ID column from the spreadsheet under “From DataGrid”

Select Barcode 128B

Take off the checkmark for “Show Human Readable”

12

You are all set. Now you can print your cards. You can add more text or logos if you like and customize your

card.

Print one card to make sure everything is correct. Do not send your whole list unless you are sure the card

is as you desire.

13

To print the barcode labels for your notebook binder

Create a new file by clicking on the “File” menu and then “New”.

Click on “File” on the menu, then “Label and Printer Setup”, then the button “Printer and Paper Setup”.

Select your normal printer

Type the layout settings as above. As long as the width of the label is greater than 2.5 inches, it will fit the barcode.

14

Now you will create a new label as opposed to a card. Since this will be in a binder, it doesn’t have to be fancy

or have any graphics or background images.

Insert the text of the first name and last name and then the barcode the same way as creating an ID.

If your spreadsheet is in alphabetical order, the labels should be in alphabetical order.

Make sure the barcode settings are correct (page 11).

Print your sheets and set them in a binder.

15

Optional

If you want to print the same card design that you created with the same dimensions on regular paper, you can print

the card you created on regular paper with the following settings.

Set the columns to 2 and the rows to 4. Then the margins to .5”.

You will have 8 labels per sheet as opposed to 15 using this method.
