To create a photograph, it is not enough just to take an image of something. The first impression from a photograph is determined

by the composition balance of an image.

Composition Grid describing rule of “Thirds”

If the area of interest is land or water, the horizon line will usually be two-thirds up from the bottom

If the sky is the area of emphasis, the horizon line may be one-third up from the bottom, leaving the sky to take up the top two-thirds of the picture

If the sunset as well as its reflection in water is of equal importance, then horizon should be near about centre of grid

The single lens reflex (SLR) is most folks' idea of a serious camera. "SLR" means that the same lens is used for viewing and taking pictures.

First the light needs to go through the lens, which is a series of differently shaped pieces of glass..

The aperture is an opening that controls how much light reaches the sensor.

Shutter decides that for how long the sensor is exposed to the light.

The sensor is a very sensitive plate. the image the sensor picks up is actually upside down, the prism inside the camera then flips it.

The size of the opening in the camera body. Opening of human eye is right analogy for aperture

“ More opening means more light influx “

Aperture- Camera’s Eye

• The aperture controls how much light passes through the lens.

Aperture affects — amount of light & depth of field

• A higher f-number = a smaller aperture = less light = More depth

• A lower f-number = a larger aperture = more light = Less depth

Narrow/Shallow Depth of field:Lower f-number say 2.8,3…focus your

foreground better & make your background blur.

Wider Depth of field:

Higher f-number say 18,20,22…. foreground as well as Background will

also be relatively in focus.

DOF depends on lens opening

• The ISO speed is a measure of the film speed, or its sensitivity to light.

• Combination of aperture/shutter not to be enough, the ISO speed can be a great asset.
