GEORGE PUOU HEAD COACH
Coach Puou is in his tenth
season as the NDNU men’s
basketball coach, compiling
an 98-150 overall record.
Puou led the Argos to a 4-23
record last season, winning
two conference games. Puou
had his most successful
season at NDNU in 2004-05,
leading the Argos to an 18-13 overall record. The team went
13-3 in conference play and finished in second place. Prior to
his arrival at NDNU, Puou was the assistant coach at St. Mary’s
College in Moraga. He also served as an assistant coach for
the Panasonic Men’s Basketball Team in Japan after retiring
as a player in 1997. Coach Puou was a standout basketball
player while attending San Jose State University where he was
selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player in 1987. He went on
to earn his BA in advertising with a minor in business from San
Jose State and played professionally in Japan from 1991-1997.

TROY JOHNSON Assistant Coach Men’s Basketball
Coach Johnson is in his first season as an assistant coach with
NDNU. He comes to the Argos with over ten years of college
basketball coaching experience. Last season he was with Colo-
rado State-Pueblo as an assistant coach. Prior to CSU-Pueblo,
Coach Johnson was an Admin Assistant with the San Jose State
basketball team and the Head Men's Coach at Merritt College in
Oakland. He has also been an assistant coach at Ohlone College in Fremont, City College
of San Francisco and Western New Mexico.

SAUL RODRIGUEZ Assistant Coach Men’s Basketball
Coach Rodriguez is in his third year as an assistant coach on the NDNU basketball staff. He earned his B.A. in Political Science at the University of California at Berkeley in 1989. His duties include recruiting, game preparation, scouting and player development. Coach Rodriguez lives in Hayward and is actively involved in the community as a basketball coach for Catholic Youth Organization and as a volunteer at St. Vincent’s de Paul.
MATT FLEMING Assistant Coach Men’s Basketball
Coach Fleming begins his tenth year with NDNU. His coaching responsibilities include post play, game preparation, and scouting reports. Fleming was a standout player at San Jose State where he was a teammate of Coach Puou and was the leading scorer and named the Most Improved Player in 1985. He earned a BS in business administration with a minor in religious studies while at San Jose State. Coach Fleming
played professionally in Germany, Brazil, and Australia. His coaching experience includes 11 years at Gunderson High School and one year as graduate assistant at San Jose State.
