LISTENINGIN THE SILENCE

Be still and know that I am God.

Psalm 46:10

On Listening to God…

We’re going to be looking at listening to God……in the silence…in community…through Scripture

Last week…we checked

our hearing.

What do we do in the silence?

1. Be still.2. Read the Bible devotionally

(listening for what God is saying to us).

3. Worship with music.4. Write a letter to God.5. Take a walk with Jesus.6. Read something that helps

you listen.7. Pray for people you care

about.8. During longer sabbath

times: sleep.

To make it a habit

Set a goal you can reach regularly.

For example—4 to 5 days a week

Experiment with time of day

Morning? Lunch break? Before bed?

Start small10 minutes a day, 4 days a week

is better than an hour once a month

What is a personal sabbath?

Uninterrupted time alone with God• To rest• To worship• To be restored• To hear from God• To get in touch with what is going on inside ourselves• To receive vision for ministry• To pray for others

Getting started with a Personal Sabbath

Give yourself a half day each month A morning, afternoon, or evening—3 ½ to 4 hours

If half day is too painful, work up to it.Beware of measuring productivity.

Camp out by the train track.

Partner. Give each other the gift of solitude.
