Witness was with Bentley on 28

th Aug in a trench at hill 60, when he had his

arm blown off with a bomb.

Witness saw Bentley on Aug 28 in the second charge, when his arm was shattered by a bomb, His chums pulled him into the trench where he died.

DIED OF WOUNDS

Private L. S. Bentley, Marrickville, August 28

Gosford Times 7.6.1917.

Private Ernest R. Bentley, brother of Mr G. W. Bentley, of the Times staff, died at Sydney on Thursday last, and was interred at Rookwood cemetery on Friday. Deceased enlisted with the A.I.F., but was invalided home suffering from diabetes. Some years ago he was employed in a solicitor’s office at Wyong. His younger brother, Lionel was at the age of 16 killed in action shortly after landing in Gallipoli.
