Green Sturgeon Monitoring

Initiated in 2009 Partner: Cramer Fish Sciences Yuba River and Feather River 2 reports:

2010 site selection and methodology (videography)

2011 green sturgeon observations at Daguerre Point Dam

Objectives

Migratory behavior is consistent with spawning

Pools downstream of Daguerre Point Dam are used for holding and spawning

Migration past potential barriers is affected by discharge

Identification of key habitat features

Sturgeon Habitat:

Depth: >5 m Area: >2500 m2

Daguerre Point Dam:

May 2011 Videography Tracking

Summary:

Multiple observations of green sturgeon at Daguerre Point Dam in May 2011

Possible spawning Yuba River may provide green sturgeon

habitat at least in high flow years Next year: additional observations of

spawning behavior/egg mats

Hammon Bar Riparian Restoration Pilot Project Initiated in 2009 Partner: SYRCL 2010—concepts report on 4.5 mile

reach 2011—planting of 1.25 acres 2012—planting of 3.75 acres

Objectives Evaluate tree survival and growth

Substrate and depth to groundwater Erosional versus depositional zone Enhancement measures

Assess value of riparian plantings as fish habitat Location and elevation on Hammon Bar Longevity versus inundation frequency
