Positioning of IP
Planning supports the decision making, the coordination of different divisions toward a
common goal and defines general conditions for the operations.
Execution involves all steps necessary for the actual value creation of the company.
Reporting tracks all transactions incurred by the execution processes.
Analysis is focusing on calculation the achievement of objectives, seeking out causes
for deviations or opportunities to put more focus on. The result of the analysis is measured versus the company mission and leads to an evaluation of overall goals and actions to be taken in order to steer the course.

The reports may be generated in excel format or as web page .
India SAP CoE, Slide 21
IP is a planning application. It provides environment for creating planning applications like Balance sheet planning budgeting, Investment planning etc. the BI store Master And transaction Data( actual data ) the Planning data is Entered through IP into what we call as Real time info cubes cubes.
We can also use actual data do some forecasting on it (apply planning functions on it and store it as plan data this plan data can be used for further reporting purpose by the enterprice).
Difference between BI & IP ?
India SAP CoE, Slide 22

India SAP CoE, Slide 28
If you want to do planning, you will have to find out which different levels in your enterprise are
involved in planning. The upper slide shows three levels: the manager, the regional manager, and the account manager.
These levels depend on each other. They all plan nearly the same, but on a different level of detail. Each level shows the focus of the planner. With each higher level, the data is more and more
aggregated.
