Current Awareness• The Problem:

– The Library managed 1,000s of email Ozmosys alerts bymaintaining a page on the firm’s Intranet that attorneyscould review and select

– Requests sent to the library were added manually on theOzmosys web site

• The Solution:– Ozmosys Alerts were integrated into the ILS & accessed

along with other subscriptions. Attorneys can now choosetheir alert & add themselves 24/7

Electronic Newsletters

• The Problem:

– Library staff set up three subscription mailboxes in Outlookwith auto-forwarding rules to handle 100+ newsletters

– Outlook rules frequently broken meant failed delivery

• The Solution:

– Implement the Electronic Content Management Module aspart of the ILS which automatically checks in and routeselectronic newsletters

Interlibrary Loans

• The Problem:

– Attorneys frequently need resources that are not heldin our collection, but need library staff to retrieve

• The Solutions:

– Integrated ILS records from NYLI (New York LawInstitute) which allows patrons to request discovereditems directly

– Integrated collection of eBooks from NYLI allows 24/7access to 50,000+ ancillary titles

Routing & Deskbooks• The Problem:

– Library maintained PDF lists of all serials titles anddeskbooks available to attorneys by practice area

– Attorneys printed, filled out & mailed the forms viainteroffice

– Serials Assistant manually filled requests & entered in theILS serials module

• The Solution:

– Using “My Subscriptions” Module of the ILS, attorneys canmanage their subscriptions 24/7

• The Problem:– To find content on Lexis, Westlaw & CCH, attorneys &

researchers searched multiple databases, web sites,and print lists of databases

• The Solution:– Serials Solutions provides records & links to over

50,000 titles, updated monthly & imported to theILS

• The Problem:

– KM staff maintained a web page on the firm’s Intranet withlinks to firm-wide resources online

– Library staff maintained records in the ILS of the sametitles

• The Solution:

– Create a Web Subscriptions page in the ILS that draws fromalready existing bib records & includes links for directaccess and online help 24/7

What’s the Benefit for Librarians?

• Merging content into a single silo provides theability to harvest meaningful metrics for allresources in order to:

– Compare usage of all resources

– Gain meaningful information for collectiondevelopment

– Maximize efficiency for lawyers to findsubscriptions by organizing the resources intopractice groups
