Bioethics: Does Science Have Legal Limits?

By Warren Lowell

Welcome

• Hello class welcome to Friday

September 16th• This class will be very informational at a fast pace,

therefore I will be doing most of the engaging for now.

• Please be ready to take notes and ask questions when necessary.

• Suggestion use an audio recording device to record lesson

WATSON & CRICK DNA MODEL

DNA THE REASON FOR BIOETHICS

• First we need to explain the history and components of DNA “the strands of life” and how they tie into our topic.

DNA Deoxyribose Nucleic Acid

• This chemical substance is present in the nucleus (the brain) of all cells in all living organisms• DNA controls:

• all the chemical changes in cell• type of cell which is formed• type of living organism mammal; human or lion

• The strand of life• Watson & Crick model• Interactive strands

DNA MOLECULE

• DNA composed of:• very large molecule • sub-units called nucleotides

• Nucleotides composed of:• Sugar called deoxyribose• Phosphate group PO4• Organic base

The most common organic bases are

Adenine (A)

Thymine (T)

Cytosine (C)

Guanine (G)

The bases

The bases always pair up in the same way

Adenine forms a bond with Thymine

and Cytosine bonds with Guanine
