New ReleasesTHE SECOND EP FROM Lost &Nameless this year is the six-songWhen You Walked into the Room. TheAustin-based quartet calls its musicfiddle-driven contemporary folkrock. The band is Patrick Conway(vocals, guitars, banjo, singing bowl),Chris Peterson (mandolin, fiddle, vocals), Nathan Quiring (piano, or-gan, accordion, vocals), and Kim-berly Zielnicki (vocals, fiddle, bass, piano). Zielnicki won the Old Settler’sYouth Talent Competition in 2012under the tutelage of Peterson, aformer Arkansas fiddle championwho began playing in the PetersonFamily Band at age four.

Due out September 16 is LongWay Down, a seven-song,roughhewn, sometimes irreverent EPfrom Casey Berry, an Amarillo na-tive now trying to make it in Nash-ville. One of the songs, “Stupid An-gels,” made it onto the TV drama“Nashville” last November. Berry re-corded in Nashville with guitaristAudley Freed (The Black Crowes,Cry of Love), drummer FredEltringham (The Wallflowers, SherylCrow, K.D. Lang), bassist Billy Mer-cer (Ryan Adams), harmonica playerMickey Raphael (Willie Nelson),and legendary steel guitarist LloydMaines.

Rapture is the second release fromAustin-based Sam Pace & The GildedGrit. The 11 songs are pretty muchrock and soul. Pace (guitars, vocals),Patrick Sanderson (bass), and SethFasske (drums) recorded Rapture inChicago with Chris Kress, longtimeengineer for Dave Matthews Band.

Detours from Mike and DorisMerritt is a cowboy Christian album. It’s influenced by what Mike Merrittcalls “a certain code of ethics andvalues” and their Christian ministry.

Redneck Revival from LouisianaSwamp Donky is basically Southernrock with country influences. Just sothere’s no surprise about the songs, note that the quartet is said to love tohunt, fish, mud ride, and have agood time hanging around with bud-dies at evening bonfires. ■
