James Galway

Technique as far as it goes for me is to following:

1) Tone development acquiring a basic good vibrant toneModifying it with dynamics, piano to a good forte.Developing the ability to play super soft in the high notes and a good full sound in the

lower octave.

2) Developing a good articulation which includes single, double and triple tonguing. Developing a soft tongue and also a good sharp attack.

3) The touch on the flute. Trying at all time to play with a gentle touch and not go banging around on the flute. With this one acquires a great legato.

4) Become a master of scales and arpeggios. This is acquired using the Daily Exercises of Marcel Moyse or the complete exercises of Taffanel and Gaubert. Antes is a good method too.

5) Playing Études to improve the whole thing. Andersen, Böhm, Köhler and the great studies of Taffanel and Gaubert are all excellent.

I would say having done all this I have no fear on the platform and my playing got to such a standard that I had no trouble getting the services of a manager.
