GUESTY AND THE CAPTAIN EXCITED ABOUT THE ARRIVAL OF TEAM PIRTEK’S NEW OFF SHORE FISHING WEAPON.Guest and Phillips made the long trek to the Gold Coast over the weekend and stopped off at the 2008 Australian
tackle show before gingerly towing the new 7.0 metre Super Vee back to Newcastle where it will be fitted out,
painted and have a gleaming new direct injected
Evinrude E-TEC bolted to it’s
transomGuesty is confident that we can get the fit out completed over the next six to eight weeks, which will allow us to
hit the shelf and get into some serious jigging action before the warm water turns up and our thoughts turn to billfish. Both Guesty and myself are extremely excited about BRP joining our team and cant wait to enjoy the performance and economical benefits that the Evinrude
ETEC offers. (Mark Phillips)

TEAM BERKLEY SHINE AT 2008
AUSTRALIAN TACKLE SHOW
Pure Fishing’s John Bell and his team has
once again put together another stunning
display of pure fishing’s finest tackle at the
2008 Australian tackle show on the
Queensland’s Gold Coast.
Pure Fishing have been extremely busy over the past few months finalising some hot new additions to their 2008 tackle line up, most of which met the tackle industries eye for the first time at the Gold Coast Convention Centre over the weekend.
There was plenty of new toys on offer from Pure Fishing’s stable of leading brands such as Berkley, Shakespeare and Abu. The new line up of Diabolo graphite rods looked fantastic as did
the the latest versions of Abu’s Revo low profile bait-caster's and Cardinal series spinning reels.
FISHING SCENE
Abu’s latest generation of the Cardinal spinning reel features11 corrosion resistant bearings and a carbon matrix drag, we have already caught some fantastic fish on these reals during the filming of the latest Berkley DVD and Gone Fishing with Jason Kennedy

Tinny owners world wide are
cheering with BRP’S release in
May 2008 of their 25 and 30
horsepower tiller steer Evinrude
E-TEC.
The release of the two new models coincides with Evinrudes 100 year anniversary. BRP have broadened their outboard line up to give smaller boat owners across the globe the opportunity to enjoy the benefits of ETEC technology. The new two cylinder motors offer the highest fuel efficiency, lightest weight and most power in their competitive engine class. These new motors feature an adjustable electronic idle control that allows boat owners to tune their trolling speed to perfection. Clean smooth smokeless power that puts you where the fish are quickly and quietly.
Spring is nearly here, its time to play
With spring just about upon us its time to
break out the jigging gear and
chase some monster kings out on
the continental
shelf. Over the next 8 weeks we will be working flat out to finish the new boat so
we can put some time in out on the big water. With a bit of luck the traditional east coast August winds will settle down
towards October and we can get a shot at some arm burning action. Its hard fishing
with water depths touching 200 metres, but as they say “no pain no gain”. Guesty got the
best of the fish last year with a cracker that was well over 20 kilo’s, so
I’m on a mission this year to give him a kicking. Sore backs aching arms and lots of laughing as your
mate gets dragged around the back deck make the 80 nautical mile round trip well worth the effort. If extreme drag pressures and big fish are your thing you will love
deep water jigging.

LIFE IN THE FAST LANE
BRP AND BERKLEY BACK
THE CAPTAIN IN SPAIN
“Its not every day you get the opportunity to compete in a world championship.”After coming within a whisker of winning the Nacra F18 nationals in January and a NSW state title in March, I put down the rod for while and headed off to Spain to compete in the F18 World Championships. The competition was hot with some of the worlds best professional and olympic sailors racing for the sports holy grail. “With the support of BRP and BERKLEY we were able to put together a highly competitive campaign that saw us finish in the top 30 out of the 150 strong fleet. It was a huge effort to get there and we could not of done it without the support of our loyal sponsors, thank you”. Mark Phillips
Guesty set to blaze on Tazzie tarmac.
•Keep an eye on your local TV guide for
the new Tasmanian tarmac round of the Australian rally championship. After
suffering a heavy high speed hit with a tree in the Rally of South Australia, Guesty is chomping at the bit to lay down some
blistering stage times in Tasmania. You can catch Guesty in action on channel 10 on Sunday 2nd of November 12pm to 1pm.
You can also catch the mid season review of the Australian Rally Championship on Saturday 4th of October 12pm to 1pm. Guesty is the most competitive man on the
planet, whether he’s racing cars, fishing or playing back yard cricket, he’s hard to beat. After a disappointing South Australian
round he will be fast in Tasmania, “he’s a hard man to keep down.” (Captain)

SEE YOU NEXT MONTH
Captains fishing tip
of the month
Don’t be afraid to fish
shallow water when your
estuary or impoundment
fishing, you will always see
the majority of the crowd
head for the deepest water
they can find. Let them
go and fish the weedy
edges up on the flats. You
will be pleasantly surprised.
Stay tunedWe have a busy year planned with lots
fishing all over our great country. We hope to bring some of the best piscatorial photography and footage in the business.
We will try to cover everything from bass in some of our most pristine river environments,
to flathead in the estuaries and billfish on the canyons. Guesty is off to the Kendall river next week so
I’m sure we will have some hot barra shots for you next month as well as plenty of up dated info on
the new boat and all the products we are installing in it. You can also read about our fishing
adventures and “how to” stories in Fishing World magazine or catch us on Fishing Trip with Jason Kennedy, channel 183
Aurora on Foxtel. Keep fishing, stay safe. Captain
