The Supportive Housing Coalition of New Mexico (SHC) is astatewide nonprofit housing organization incorporated in 1996.Based in Albuquerque, SHC is the leader in affordable,supportive housing for people with behavioral health issuesexperiencing homelessness in New Mexico.

The Board of Directors of the Supportive Housing Coalition of New Mexico serve as leadersand advocates for agency programs and plan for the organization's long and short term future.As a volunteer for the organization, you are part of the team dedicated to preventing andreducing homelessness for people with behavioral health issues in New Mexico

To prevent and reduce homelessness and to increase thequality of life for people with behavioral health issues in NewMexico by creating affordable, supportive housing inpartnership with local communities and participating agencies.

Director DutiesPlan for the agency’s future on a long and short-term basis,including involvement in the strategic planning processAttend at least 75% of monthly board meetings, includingassigned committeesServe on a minimum of one Board committee Participate in all fundraising activities which may includepersonal individual solicitation, special events, mailappeals, and other activities Work in good faith with staff and other board members aspartners towards achievement of agency goals Set policyAct as fiduciaryProvide personal financial contribution to SHC-NM Abide by the SHC-NM Board of Directors Code of Conduct

SHC manages over 350 tenant based housing vouchers,working with 150 partner landlords, in the private rentalmarket in Albuquerque We prevent homelessness by providing emergency move-inassistance and eviction prevention grants for over 100 peopleeach year We help dozens of people get a new start with reentry afterdischarge from hospitalization or incarceration We created and manage 10 permanent supportive housingunits just for families in Gallup, NM We house 350 individuals and families who pay below-market rates at SHC mixed income complexes

Key Accomplishments

The organization pioneered the evidence-based HousingFirst model of ending homelessness in New Mexico,creating permanent supportive housing developments andmanaging hundreds of housing vouchers in scattered sitesthroughout Albuquerque. SHC provides servicecoordination to our tenants, helping them accesssupportive services such as financial literacy, job training,educational opportunities, and public benefits.
