BOWMORE ROAD P.S. NEWS LETTER
Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:
As many of us prepare for the holidays, I would
like to take this time to wish all our Bowmore
community a happy, safe, and enjoyable break as we
see in the last of 2015. Although this year has posed
some challenging times both in education and globally,
I am hoping people can take some time for self-
reflection about how experiences in the last 365 days
have shaped and influenced their own and others’ lives.
My wish is for everyone to strengthen their emotional,
professional, and personal confidence moving into the
New Year.
The month of December has seen the
completion of grades 1 to 8 report cards and a number
of parent interviews. I hope this opportunity has
provided you with an accurate picture of your child’s
learning. I encourage all parents to maintain close
contact with their child’s teacher. A strong home-
school connection is an important factor in students’
success at school. Working together, we continue to
make improvements to our learning and to student
success.
As the holidays draw near, we continue to
celebrate the spirit of giving at our school. We
completed an incredibly successful food and clothing
drive. In addition, we witnessed our staff and students
celebrating and performing in 3 separate Winter
Concerts. Our gym was packed to capacity as parents
and extended families enjoyed an array of
performances.
On behalf of all of the staff at Bowmore P.S.,
we wish you a healthy, happy and peaceful holiday. We
are finished school on Friday, December 18 and return
to school in the New Year on Monday, January 4,
2016.

QSP Update
Hello Bowmore Families,
Every Fall , Bowmore runs a magazine fundraiser to raise
money to benefit our students' enrichment programs. In
past years we have raised between $8,000 and $12,000 to
support Scientist in the Classroom and other Artistic
Programs that your child enjoys!
This year, Bowmore's QSP team was not able to run a
complete campaign with contests and promotions due to
Work to Rule. BUT, even without a full campaign, to date
the school has raised $1,000 from Bowmore's families
and community support. Thank you!
So, if you haven't ordered or renewed your magazine
subscriptions, please consider this a gentle reminder that
it's never too late to make it happen. By the way, they
make a great holiday gift too. (Look for all your family's
favourite magazines; Canadian Living, Style at Home,
Chirp, American Girl and Canadian National Geographic,
to name a few.)
Orders can now be placed manually and returned to your
Teacher for collection or online, through www.qsp.ca and
our school's GROUP ID 3720844.

Tuesday, January 12th, 2016
6:30pm to 7:45pm
The Jr. and Sr. Girls Club worked together
this year to run a food drive for the Daily Bread Food Bank. The drive was very successful with boxes overflowing. Last year, we were able to collect 530 pounds of food and this year our goal was to get to 600 pounds. We are sure that we have passed that goal. Thank you to everyone who donated. We have proved that when Bowmore works together, great things happen!
Way to go girls and way to go Bowmore!
L. Jarvis, A. Cahill and S. Mansour
Bowmore’s two robotics teams, Trash Busters and
Bytes, performed amazingly well at the First Lego League
robotics qualifier round at Woburn Collegiate on Saturday.
Twenty teams participated in our qualifier, and our teams
took two of the four available spots to advance to the
provincial championships. Our teams were in first and
second place for much of the afternoon, although the team
from Glen Ames squeaked through into first place at the
last minute, pushing our teams into second and third place.
In addition, Trash Busters won the coveted Robot
Design Award:
"This award recognizes a team that designs and develops a
mechanically sound robot that is durable, efficient and
highly capable of performing challenge missions."
...and they were the runner up for the Robot
Performance Award:
"This award recognizes a team that scores the most points
during the Robot Game. Teams have a chance to compete
in at least three 2.5 minute matches and their highest score
counts."
Congratulations to both teams, and many thanks to
all the parents, teachers, and mentors who helped them get
there.
Way to go Robotics Team!

SCHOOL COUNCIL JANUARY 2016
BOWMORE SPORTS NEWS Jr. Girls Basketball We had a great season with many new players on the team. Everyone improved and with each game, we were very impressed with the energy, positive spirit and effort that all the girls displayed. We had a 1-2 season but ended on a high with a victorious game of 24-4! Wow! Girls, keep hitting the courts and we'll see you next year! Ms. Moran and Ms. Jarvis
