Understand Texas Long Range Technology Plan 2006-2020
Understand components and purpose of Texas STaR chart
Analyze campus data
Recommendations for technology integration
Organizes recommendations for effective integration of technology in schools within four key areas with clear challenges in each area.
The areas include: Teaching and Learning, Educator preparation and development, leadership, administration and instructional support, and infrastructure for technology
Requires that students be technologically literate by the end of the 8th grade
School Districts utilize the Texas STaR chart to determine level of proficiency in integrating and aligning technology with the Technology Application TEKs
School Technology and Readiness
Determines progress toward meeting the goals of the long range plan for Technology
Annually gauge progress in integrating technology into schools
The online survey is used as a tool designed for use in technology planning, budgeting for resources, evaluation of progress in local technology projects
establishes a clear framework of a teacher’s ability to teach and integrate Technology Application TEKs
Questions campuses can use to gauge progress and alignment with standards:
What is your current technology profile?
What areas should your campus focus on to improve the level of integration of technology instruction?
Online survey assesses the four domains of the Long Range Technology plan
Under each domain there are six focus areas and four levels of progress (early tech, developing tech, advanced tech, and target tech)
Scoring rubric can be found by accessing the STaR Chart website: http://starchart.epsilen.com/
Teaching & Learning: Early Tech: teachers use technology to
supplement instruction (6-8) Developing Tech: teachers use technology
to direct instruction (9-14) Advanced Tech: Teachers use technology
in teacher led or student centered instruction (15-20)

professional development in technology literacy (6-8)

Infrastructure For Technology: Early Tech: ten or more students per
computer (6-8) Developing Tech: five to nine students per
computer (9-14) Advanced Tech: four or less students per
computer (15-20) Target Tech: all students have 1:1 access to a
computer (21-24)

Turn and talk with members at your table about the data.
What patterns or trends did you notice?
What are some possible challenges for technology integration?
What recommendations do you suggest for improvement?
Integrate technology in one content area Team with a teacher that is technology
proficient and create team lessons Utilize on-line professional development
opportunities Create a shared vision at the beginning of the
school year in regards to technology Seek out community stakeholders that can
provide professional development for teachers or provide technology
classes for students.
The Long Range Plan for Technology utilizes the state standards for technology and determines key areas educators should focus on when integrating technology
The STaR chart is a tool that allows campuses to determine technology strengths and areas of improvement
All students should be technologically literate by the end of Grade 8.
