The Biocide
Brooklands Medical Supplies use a biocide containing the
active ingredient of Didecyl Dimethyl Ammonium Chloride
(DDAC) combined with Polypropylene in various levels of
strength to build ABTS™.
DDAC is a low level disinfectant from the chemical class of
Quaternary Ammonium Compound (QAC, QUATS) that has
the relevant information.

The Efficacy of Advanced Biocide Technology Solutions™
The antimicrobial activity of polypropylene materials
tested and treated with DCCL Biocidal Treatment - DCCL 23
(Fh/116479/3), 6 month old (used) materials treated with
DCCL Biocidal Treatment (Fh/116479/1 and Fh/116479/2)
and untreated (no biocide) materials (Fh/116479/6) were
assessed against methicillin resistant Staphylococcus aureus
(MRSA), Vancomycin Resistant Enterococcus faecium (VRE)
and Escherichia coli, using a modified Kirby Bauer test.2
Polypropylene materials tested and treated with DCCL
Biocidal Treatment - DCCL 23 (Fh/116479/3) had an
antibacterial effect against MRSA, VRE and E. coli with zones
of clearing visible around all of the test samples.2
Quaternary Ammonium Cations
Quaternary ammonium cations, also known as
quats, are positively charged polyatomic ions
of the structure NR4+, R being an alkyl group.
Unlike the ammonium ion (Nh4+) and the
primary, secondary, or tertiary ammonium
cations, the quaternary ammonium cations are permanently
charged, independent of the ph of their solution. Quaternary
ammonium salts or quaternary ammonium compounds
(called quaternary amines in oilfield parlance) are salts of
quaternary ammonium cations with an anion.

A biostatic agent inhibits further growth of a microorganism
without killing it. As long as the microorganism is exposed
to the biostatic agent, biostatic fabric or biostatic fiber, the
microorganism will not be able to proliferate. Brooklands
biostatic formulations are water stabilized allowing for safe

pathogen risks are of a concern:
BiOCiDE (liquid - based on 7 day protocol)
• A biodegradable biocide which forms an invisible biostatic
and biocidal layer on each product/surface
• Offers a 5 log kill rate 7 days after application
• Patient kits have 5 log kill rate against C. Difficile
(vegetative, h5N1, Avian Flu, Coronavirus (SARS) and
proven to have sporadical activity against C. Difficile

BiOCiDE (fabric - based on protocol at 1%)
• Bacteria cannot penetrate the surface and are inhibited/
killed within 30 seconds
