TO CREATE, EXPAND, LEAVE A LEGACY AND TO BE HAPPY: • Inner Commitments • Big version of a ToDo • A big new habit • Outward Commitments • writing a wrong • Wants and desires • Fixing something • A purpose in life • Double negative • A lie to live
Why do we have goals?

• Time management should support your goals.• Don’t sacrifice family time for your goals. • Business dominated my life so I set goals back
in 2007 to keep that in check. Including leaving lucrative career to run a business on < 40 hours a week.

Own your life
The difference between successful people and really successful people is that really successful people say no to almost everything.
Progress keeps it in existence

MoSCoW • In software we run a system called MOSCOW for prioritisation. It works well for goal prioritisation.
• There only ever seems to be enough time to get MUSTS done
• Resolutions and goals need to be your MUSTS
Skilling and tooling
“I just sit in my office and read all day.”
Warren Buffet spends 80% of his day reading and thinking.
Outer vs inner commitments

Outer = You WANT it so
much youjust do it!
Inner = You WISH it so much youjust don’t do it!

• Mostly this is about the mental toughness to delay gratification
Accountability
Accountability pressure is created by • Reviewing your goals publicly. • Meeting with a business coach. • Reporting KPI’s to a group, company or in a blog post.

Minimalism and goals
• Less targets more focus. • Achievable goals motivate you for bigger and better. • Not too few or too easy else you are playing half arsed.

Motivation
It’s late in the day and I was feeling down so I called on motivation: 1. Listened to Hans
Zimmerman Inception soundtrack.
2. Watch Giavanni Ruffin train for 3 mins. “How bad do you want it?”
3. Made a cappacino. Making it yourself is puts extra kick into it.
Blockers and challenges
Resolution fatigue

DreamResolving
• You set and fail, set and fail.• You failed before you even set them.• Its a pattern most of us are in• 90%+ of people break their new years
resolutions within a week of setting them.
Goals are framed by language
Lose weight by exercising and dieting daily.
Create a fit & strong body. Breath crisp morning air.
Clean up the house each day
after work.
Clean & edit my home to create a order, peace and
inspiration.
BORING / TODO INSPIRING / PURPOSE
Success is in small actions, rituals & starting

Gamify Tasks (just a simple KPI)
Draw Plans (just basic mudmaps)
https://www.flickr.com/photos/mythoto/
Action Today (just a small task)
Set goals by compared to yourself not others
• Goals are steps to bigger goals, which are steps to bigger goals• The law of compounding applies to goals
Recovering from failure
Allow cheat meals, drinks &
treats.
Tomorrow is a new day. So press the reset button.
Failure exists because giving
up exists
Play a catchup game. e.g. Do a
double gym/run.
Goal setting process
1. Get into a great Mental & Emotional State
• Flow• Elation• Peak state
2. List your hopes and dreams.
• What is the why for each? • Why you want to do it gives
you the motivation to persist • Why ensures you really
believe in it. • Find the deepest reason
behind your why.
You may have some SHOULD do’s that don't get to MUST do’s because you are actively blocking them. Family often falls into that category. You might say to yourself
“Later I’ll spend time on my family when I’m successful. I’m making money and being successful for my family.”
Think bigger, have both.
3. Sort goals into rough groups
🌎 Experiences

💡 Create
% Service
👶 Family
💵 Money
( Spirit
• Does an area dominate for you?
• You get insight into what you are really committed to.
• Are you financially, spiritually or family centred?
4. Start curating down to the MUSTS
• Remove the shoulds, coulds and woulds • Look at what realistically is achievable in the year • What persists? What generates regret? What creates guilt?
How do you feel about your list?
Digg deep inside your true self are these really what you want? Is there another voice lacking courage? Is it time to say “No”?
You might resolve something deeper?
I am going to allow the real me, the suppressed, the hidden me. I want to live my live fully expressed in the areas I’ve always wanted to.
5. Set a timeframe for each
• Short - Weeks month • Medium - Year • Long - 3+ Years
GOALS FOR 2015 I will easily stretch to create a flexible healthy and comfortable body [April]
6. List out the actions for each
• Some will be simple and others require a project approach.• Chunk big things into smaller tasks.• Delegation is ok. Buy time and resource to achieve goals.• Automate some things to happen.
GOALS FOR 2015 I will easily stretch to create a flexible healthy and comfortable body [April]
- up at 6am [weekdays] 7am [weekends]
- do 5 tibetan and then 10 military stretch sets. [daily]
- tick chart when done. [daily]
- measure stretch capacity once [monthly]
- get video or photo done day 1 and redo on day 90 [one-times]
7. Start
• Take the first step. • You, employees, others can do this. • Starting is “starting a ritual” not just doing the first task • Toughest part for some people is overcoming procrastination. Just take a
step, open the book, turn on the computer, sit at the desk. • Chunking into bite size pieces can help with procrastination. • Massive action by “Tony Robbins” is a goo technique that must be backed
by preparation.
8. What motivation and inspiration is needed?
• Videos • Books • Mood boards • Incantations • Standards • Work habitat
9. What accountability can you create
• Share what you are up for with F&F • Share via a video blog (vlog) • Put it on your wall, in the toilet • Read them each day • Get a life coach • Declare in a regular email update
10. Reward
• Progress is the most powerful of rewards • Soaking in it • Smelling the flowers • Admiring the view • Presence each day in what you got done • Gratitude
