What is a bushfire?

• A bush fire is a fire that can be lit naturally or by person .

When and where can they occur

• It happens mostly in summer and low humidity.

• It can happen in the forest dry land or bushes.

• North to north west strong winds.

What can cause a bush fire

• Lightning strikes• Meteors• Electric wires on the ground• Arsonists• Careless campfires

How can they affect people’s lives

• If people go too close to a fire.• If the house or friends house burns down

What plans to include when near a bush fire.

• Take food and water • Wet towels• Clothes• Torch• Safety glasses• Sleeping bag • Tent and much more important things

How would you escape if you were caught in one.

• Call SES or 000• Drive away • Tell everybody• Get your survival kit

How can you tell when a bushfire is coming close

If the arrow points to the green you are most likely safe. If its on the blue there is a little chance of fire.

If the arrow is on the yellow its even more possible. If its on the orange there is 90% chance a bushfire is coming

if the arrow is on the red a fire has already come and it is very dangerous and you must leave immediately

How to tell when a bushfire is coming(2)

• Beauforte scale• Tells you the wind speed1.Look at the fire metre.2.Use the beauforte scale and see where the

wind is going

After the bushfire you must check:

• Your family and friends • If you lost the survival kit• If the fire has been blown back to you• Your phone• If anyone has been hurt

A final reminder

• Call 000 if there is a fire• Pack survival kit• Check your sibling and family• Be aware of the fire metre and where the

arrow is pointing
