millions years ago, when human begans first

appeared. It ended about 5.000 years before

the birth of Christ, when agriculture and

livestock farming began.

hunting, fishing and gathering.

• They were nomadic, meaning that they moved from place to place in search of food.

• Their homes were caves and simple huts.

• They knew how to use fire and made tools out of stones, bones and wood.

People lived mainly on the Cantabrian coast

Paleolithic paintings of animals, such as bison, horses and

deer, have been found in many caves there.

The Neolithic Period

The second period in Prehistory is the

Neolithic period. It began on the Iberian

Peninsula about 5.000 years before the

birth of Christ, when agriculture and

livestock farming started. It ended 900

years before Christ, when writing was

introduced on the Peninsula.

Life in the Neolithic• They were farmers, and so planted crops and raised livestock. This made people sedentary, wich means that they lived in permanent settlements.

• They invented objects such as pottery, the plough, the sickle, the wheel and candles.

• They started using the first metals, copper

and bronze, to make their tools and

weapons.

In the year 900 before Christ, visitors went to the Peninsular Mediterranean coasts in search of metals and cereals.

They teach people how to obtain iron and sea salt, as well as writing techiniques.
