DRUG AND HOW THEY AFFECT THE CENTRAL

NERVOUS SYSTEM.

Caffeine affects the release of dopamine. It

also influences the dopamine system at

points after the production of

dopamine.Drugs like heroin

increase the levels of dopamine.

DOPAMINE

Caffeine releases serotonin in the brain. Long term overuse can lead to a desensitizing effect. Heroin is a depressant and lowers the serotonin. It has also been tied to migraines, irritable bowel

syndrome, and fibromyalgia.

SEROTONIN

Caffeine caused an immediate and sustained release of endorphins in the blood.

Heroin slows heart-rate, respiration, and metabolism in general - exactly what you would need to hibernate. Of course, sometimes heroin

slows it all down to nothing:
