DivorcesDivorces were controlled by the Canada federal government, not by the individual provinces.http://www.collectionscanada.gc.ca/genealogy/022-906.008-e.html From 1840 to 1968, divorces in Canada were granted by private acts of the Parliament of Canada.1867 to 1968 required a notice of intent to be published in two newspapers in the home district or county for 6 months.
Between 1867 and 1963, a transcript was published in the Statutes of Canada for the current year.
