OVERVIEW/SUMMARYSUBJECT – Social StudiesGRADE LEVEL – 4th & 5th
SUMMARY:Students will draw a state. They will then research and collect information about the capitol city of that particular state. They will gather information about the states capitol city. The students will then present the information to the rest of the class in a 2-4 minute presentation, and be prepared to answer questions. Presentations can be done as a PowerPoint, with posters or another form approved by the teacher. Students will get with a partner to practice their presentations before presenting to the class. After all the presentations have been completed, the students will be given a worksheet to complete as homework over the information presented by their classmates on their capitol cities.
STANDARDS/ASSESSMENT
IOWA –Core Curriculum Standards Core Content Area : Social Studies
Standard : 1 – Understand the use of geographic tools to locate and analyze information about people, places, and environments.
OBJECTIVE
Students will be able to research the capitol city of the state they draw. Provide information about the landmarks, famous people, and historical facts related to the city.

Presentations can be done orally, in PowerPoint format, or another form approved by the teacher.
Must consist of but not limited to famous people, interesting facts, and historical information about the capitol city.
Must be 2-4 minutes in length. If done orally students must create a poster, or
provide handouts for the class. Students will practice their presentations with a
partner before presenting to the class.
