We are proud to present the Carmel Symphony Orchestra’s 2011-12 season schedule! As we mark our first complete season in the Palladium, we continue to bring our subscribers the very best in classical and pops performances.
Our 2011-12 schedule is full of world-renowned guest artists (Angela Brown, 12/10; Cameron Carpenter, 4/14) talented up-and-coming musicians (Stephen Kim, 10/1; the Indianapolis Children’s Choir, 3/10), and a season of classical masterworks overflowing with emotion and vitality that will captivate you in every performance.
CLASSICAL MASTERWORKS Masterpieces sound vibrant and expressive in the Palladium, with season programming that includes Mahler’s powerful “Resurrection” Symphony, Rachmaninoff’s popular Piano Concerto No. 2, and Tchaikovsky’s dramatic Symphony No. 5.
HIGH-ENERGY PERFORMANCES With a youthful and dynamic lineup of captivating guest artists, the Carmel Symphony strives to connect young audiences with the ecclectic and exciting world of classical music.

The season begins with violin prodigy Stephen Kim in a program featuring masterworks by Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky and Beethoven, with Kim featured on Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto. Tchaikovsky’s dramatic and beautiful Fifth Symphony concludes this concert.

David Bowden ConductorAnderson University Chorale and Alumni Choir
The Carmel Symphony along with the Anderson University Chorale and Alumni Choir perform three deeply emotional works, beginning with Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 2, “Resurrection.” The program also includes a hauntingly beautiful new work by Dan Forrest, in paradisum, and Serenade to Music by Vaughan Williams.

After an acclaimed appearance to begin the Carmel Symphony’s residency in the Palladium, pianist Di Wu returns to perform Rachmaninoff’s beautiful Piano Concerto No. 2. Dukas’ The Sorcerer’s Apprentice rounds out the program along with Strauss’ Till Eulenspiegel’s Merry Pranks and Massenet’s Meditation from Thais, featuring concertmaster Larry Shapiro.

The music of the Celts will steal your heart away! Featuring the world-champion McGing Irish Dancers, a rousing sing-along, the Indianapolis Children’s Choir and fiddlin’ and pipin’ like you heard in Lord of the Dance, this concert is an energetic celebration of the Celtic tradition.

Cameron Carpenter returns as a resident artist of the Carmel Symphony Orchestra, performing his original compositions with the orchestra including a new arrangement of popular Irving Berlin songs. Also on the program are Rossini’s La Scala di Seta and Elgar’s Enigma Variations. Carpenter’s intense artistry will leave you in awe!

Student DiscountsStudents of all ages receive discounts for all Carmel Symphony concerts! The KidsPASS, for grades 8th and younger, allows students to attend for just $5. High school and college students can take advantage of the RushPASS, priced at just $10. Subject to availability.
CarmelFestThe Carmel Symphony Orchestra has a proud tradition of performing free community concerts during the 4th of July festivities in Carmel, when thousands gather to celebrate our country’s birthday.
Young Artist CompetitionThe Young Artist Competition nurtures the budding careers of highly skilled young musicians through our annual concerto competition. The competition is held in the fall and is open to area students through high school seniors, with the winner performing at our Family Fun! concert.
Sounds Exciting! ConcertsEvery year, the Carmel Symphony Orchestra plays a series of interactive performances forelementary age students in an effort to engage children in the world of music. Nearly 2,000 students attend these popular Sounds Exciting! concerts each year.
