History: Donnie Langford started the Carolina Tarwheel's program here in Cabarrus County. Donnie started playing wheelchair basket-ball 30 years ago after being in a car accident in 1979 that left him as an incomplete paraplegic. He is both our team coach and plays guard on the team. His favorite part of wheel-chair basketball is the great competition, and the fellowship among the players.

The future is bright… Though basketball and softball are our main sports, we have a small group involved in accessible golf and we are looking to expand our pro-grams as our funding increases. Other sports include flag football and adaptive deep sea fishing adventures. Our goal is to grow our program into an organization that has an adaptive sport or activity for any and all physically disabled people that want to be a part of our group.

...Great competition and lasting relationships... The Carolina TarWheels is a local program for disabled persons to become involved and compete in adaptive sports. We have two major goals as a non-profit organization: getting out awareness to the community about adaptive sports and getting disabled persons involved in sports.

We offer: A welcoming group of disabled persons, that all lead regular lives,

work normal jobs or go to college and do their best to live their life the same if not better than the average able-bodied person

A program that brings various disabilities together and helps them learn how to handle situations that only come from being disabled that doctors don't know to teach

A competitive sports program that travels throughout the United States, playing other disabled teams in the National Wheelchair Bas-ketball Association.
