BLOG PLATFORMS

Web 2.0 is a term that descr ibes the changing trends in the use of World Wide

Web technology and Web design that aim to enhance creativity, secure

information shar ing, increase collaboration, and improve the functionality of

the Web as we know it (Web 1.0). These have led to the development and

evolution of Web- based communities and hosted services, such as

social- networking sites (i.e. Facebook, MySpace), video shar ing sites (i.e.

YouTube), wikis, blogs, etc. (J. Stern, https://goo.gl/QEDx8Z)

PEERGRADE TECH TUESDAYS

WHAT IS WEB 2.0?

Looking for an easier way to

peergrade with your students? Or

do you just want to change it up a

litt le? Check out Peergrade. Simple

to set- up, you can add students

with a join code. They can then

submit and peergrade their

classmates submitted work.

Teachers can add a rubr ic, set and

adjust submission & due dates.

Looking for easy to use options for student por tfolios? Here are a few different options students might find useful.

Google Classroom

If you haven't considered using Google Classroom as a blogging platform, check it out! It works well as a group blog - students can make their own posts and then easily comment on the blog posts of other students. You can control student posting and mute students who might need a litt le guidance on digital citizenship.

EduBlogs

Allowing for a bit more individuality & creativity than Google, EduBlogs is another great option. You can monitor student posts and comments, make the blog pr ivate & accessible to only those with a password you set. Downsides I see are the password length - think 12 characters of a impossible to remember creation you must make to pass the strength- test. Also, the set up asks students for YahooIM & AIM? A tad dated in that respect but for a blog it works well.

It allows a safe, enclosed medium to star t blogging but because it acts like an online feed it doesn't allow for much creativity. Check out this video for more info on setting it up.
