Asher levineAsher Levine needs no introduction. The New York-based designer and his iconic custom performance garments can be seen gracing the most exciting entertainers world wide, including Will.I.Am. & The Black Eyed Peas, Scissor Sisters, Bruno Mars and Lady Gaga. In addition, his eponymous label, Asher Levine, is well into it’s 6th season. Asher’s creative collaboration with Cat Footwear brought the Urban Dark West to life.

“Cat Footwear has an emphasis on ruggedness. There’s a history behind it. We really wanted to maintain the heritage of Cat Footwear through a different lens. Something that is really spontaneous, that embodies excitement.”

“Cat Footwear represents an urban lifestyle. It’s freedom, youth and the experiences that go with it. Friends make up a large part of that. Showing that life experience was our direction for the campaign.”

“We thought hard about the Urban Dark West concept when planning the shoot. A key idea we all kept coming back to was freedom. The pioneer spirit. Thinking about how the cities are the new frontier for those who have creativity and drive. Why not take a group of friends, have them run around freely through this urban, gritty environment to get the idea across? Then, we knew we could really drive the whole look and feel of that environment through the lighting and in the movements of our cast. Together, both brands share a common DNA. We’re tough, bold and innovative. Cat Footwear’s rugged heritage and our high-fashion elements complimented each other in the execution.”

jasmineJasmine Solano is easily what one would classify as a rare breed. Mastering the roles of a notable disc jockey, rapper and self-proclaimed “Mistress of Ceremonies” it’s clear to see that Solano’s work ethic is not one to question. Following an international tour with punk-rock / hip-hop group Ninjasonik in 2009, Solano was also the only female to serve as an opening act at 2009’s Rock The Bells. Her debut visual for her anthem track “That’s Not It,” was directed by Vashtie and has gained on-air play on MTVu as well as a feature on MTV.

MOUGABE aka 'PURP'Purp represents the city, and his heart sleeps in Brookyln. He was initially drawn to the fashion world after realizing that every day, people’s personal style speaks volumes for them without even saying a word. In photography, the fact that he’s able to create tangible memories framed in time, helped him to fall in love with the field. That feeling, of those memories forever immortalized on film and the strong emotions they provoke, keep him pushing his creativity forward.

CoreyThere’s an art to everything Corey Washington does. Originally from Baltimore, her move to Brooklyn at age 18 came out of a search for inspiration. Now, it continues with her inspiring others as only a style icon can. She can be considered a multi-faceted creative - her paintings, drawings, photography, and off-the-cuff fashion shoots all draw from her experiences within the rich music and personality scenes of the city.

The Women’s capsule collection featured two custom designs from Brooklyn-based designer Patricia Ayres. Cat Footwear sat down to hear more about Patricia’s inspirations for her designs and how she moves the Earth.

“When I started out, I didn’t really work for any big names. I concentrated my energies at working in a couple smaller places which gave me the opportunity to travel to several countries, work in sample rooms, and really get more hands-on experience which lead me to where I am today.”

“My time at the Fashion Institute of Technology [New York] was a key point for me as I had done a lot of drawings but not a lot of sewing aside from what I did with my grandmother. So I went into that program, came out, worked in the industry for a few years and then I decided that I wanted to go out on my own, started doing my own collections, and through that I realized that I had this sensibility perhaps of an artist, and then I returned to school for fine art - so now I am doing both fashion design and sculptural installations.”

“I’m originally from Long Island, but my studio is currently in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, NYC. It’s in an 100-year old warehouse/factory, which during World War I and World War II, was used by the military to make supplies and weapons. It’s got these rail lines that go right up to the building. It’s on the water, and they’d ship out directly from there, so it’s still got this character. Parts of it are still as it was back then. They haven’t replaced the windows in some parts. It’s kind of spooky. Just working in that building gives me inspiration.”

121

interview

“The skirt with the long train, definitely gets its inspiration from my past. My grandmother, who was a former nun, made all of my clothing when I was younger - my first design was my First Holy Communion dress when I was in the 2nd grade. Growing up in that environment with her really informed my work. Religious and

medical themes constantly come to me as inspiration which isn’t necessarily overt or intentional, but often weave itself in and out of my designs.”

“[The coat] Draws on more of the same. It definitely has an austerity to it. It’s black, clean lines, and then the cut-out shoulders give it a

little edge without losing that modesty.”

STYLIST / PaScaLe GrISÉ

The clothes are the silent expression of one’s style, personality and character.

We, as women, are a community. We are one yet all so different.

Every season, Cat Footwear offers a new global collection with always the high quality, strong durability and great looks in which every woman can find her individual style.

My role as a stylist is to observe and listen to these women, capturing the essence of who they are and translating it through fashion. It is also important for me to always create a look that will support and compliment the personality of the shoe.

Black was chosen as a strong universal canvas on which I could build every personal look with an equal starting point but allowing me to develop each one into the distinct character of each woman.

Every day, with style, confidence and strength, these Earthmovers are teaching and changing life in their own feminine way.

she was selected to be an ambassador for the brand’s Earthmover’s campaign. After the success of that venture, the idea of a capsule collection took shape.
