WHAT DO YOU NOTICE?
THE
FUTURE
(TENSE, THAT IS!!)
ONE WAY TO EXPRESS
THE FUTURE IN FRENCH
1. USING THE VERB “ALLER” (TO GO)
STEP 1 – TAKE THE PART OF “ALLER” YOU NEED.
STEP 2 – COMBINE IT WITH AN INFINITIVE.
LET’S SEE HOW
JE VAIS = I AM GOING
TU VAS = YOU ARE GOING
IL/ELLE VA = HE/SHE IS GOING
NOUS ALLONS = WE ARE GOING
ILS/ELLES VONT = THEY ARE GOING
VOUS ALLEZ = YOU ARE GOING
BUT WHAT IS AN INFINITIVE?IT IS THE WAY A VERB IS WRITTEN BEFORE WE DO ANYTHING WITH IT. THIS IS HOW YOU WILL SEE IT IN A DICTIONARY.
JOUER = TO PLAYFAIRE = TO DODORMIR = TO SLEEP
JE VAIS JOUER
= I AM GOING TO PLAY
IT’S AS EASY AS THAT!!!!!
LET’S JUST SEE ANOTHER EXAMPLE
IL VA DORMIR
=HE IS GOING TO SLEEP
ONE MORE……
NOUS ALLONS
FAIRE
= WE ARE GOING TO DO
OK LET’S SUMMERISE THE FUTURE TENSE NOW………………
1 + 2The present tense of the verb to go ‘aller'
+
the infinitive of the verb that you want to use
Je vais I’m goingTu vas You’re goingIl/elle va He,she is goingNous allons We’re goingVous allez you are goingIls/elles vont they’re going
+
boire (drink)manger (eat)écouter (listen)Jouer (play)regarder (watch)Visiter (visit)
TO FORM THE FUTURE TENSE YOU NEED : 1+2
SO…
AND THAT’S HOW THE FUTURE TENSE WORKS IN FRENCH.
