• Development from the 16th century for light
• 250 000 – 300 000 ha middle of the 19 th
• Disparition during the colonial period
• Start again after the 2nd world war – 1950 : 100 000 ha 1.2 t/ha – 1960 : 300 000 ha 1.5 t/ha, – 1970 : 500 000 ha 2.0 t/ha

Main working axes on oilseed rape for 2006-09
• Increase Yield and oil content
• Secure yields – Weeds management (new solutions,
cropping syst)– Durable management of resistances to
pathogens (Leptosphaeria maculans)– Insects control– Relationship between oil content
optimistion and nitrogen fertilisation
Main working axes on oilseed rape for 2006-09
• Increase surfaces– New areas
• Energetic balance of production – Nitrogen nutrition
• Reduce production costs– Decision making tools for farmers
• Valorisation of subproducts – Meals : GLS, technology
• Reduce Environmental impacts – Pesticides residues– Greenhouse effect gases
• Chemicals and genotypes testing
• Technical commuication– Web development
