Creating Effective Student Support

Teams

Systems and Structures

Most schools have systems and structures in place to support regular collaboration to address student needs.

Key components:–Representation across the school community–Identification and provision of supports–Ongoing monitoring of progress–Strategies to enable access to all–Accommodations and interventions

Student Support Teams

PPT: Pupil Personnel Team

AIS Team: Academic Intervention Team

SAT: School Assessment Team

LRE Team: Least Restrictive Environment Team

Pupil Personnel Team

• Multi-disciplinary in nature

• Dual Focus: – to meet the needs of specific students

and to analyze school wide behavioral, academic and attendance trends

And– design and implement prevention and

intervention initiatives with other school personnel as appropriate

Academic Intervention Team

• Multi-disciplinary in nature• Receive referrals from PPTs and/or

Staff• Assess student strengths and

difficulties• Design and implement Academic

Intervention Services• Monitor Student Progress• Refine and revise student AIS plans• Documentation

Least Restrictive Environment Team

It is the responsibility of every school to:

Continuously monitor testing, recommendationsand programs to ensure that students identifiedas having a disability receive services in the LeastRestrictive Environment and to continuouslymonitor student progress as a means to move Students LRE as soon as it’s appropriate.

School Assessment Team

Formerly known as the School Based Support Team, the SAT:

• Consists of a Psychologist, Social Worker and Family Worker at its core

• Is joined by teachers, guidance counselors, and administrators on an ad hoc basis

• Evaluates and surfaces a student’s strengths and deficits and makes recommendations for meeting the student’s individual needs

School Implementation Team (SIT)

To develop and carry out an appropriate and effective reform implementation plan specific to each school community.

• Multi-disciplinary• Review articulating, OTC, new Evaluation and

Annual IEPs• Be aware of the school’s current continuum of

services• Meet with parents to discuss LRE options

where appropriate• Expand the continuum when necessary • Amend IEPs when moving LRE

Ensure that students receive their services from the first day of attendance

continuously receive referrals from PPTs and/or Staff

• Assess student strengths and difficulties• Design and implement interventions• Monitor Student Progress• Refine and revise student plans• Communicate with parents/families on a

regular basis• Documentation
