• Hitler and Neville Chamberlain met in Munich, Germany

• Britain and France declared war on Germany on September 3, 1939

• Germans bypassed the Maginot line and entered France

• America sold war materials to the Allies, but they had to use cash and use their own ships

• Selective Service Act – draft to be ready in case of war

• Land Lease Act – allowed the president FDR to send equipment to any nation in return for property, services or equipment

• Japan joined the Axis powers.
