Change your Brain,Transform your LifeDr. Dani Gordon, MD, CCFP, ABIHM

You’ll Know Why..

Most chronic health problems start in the brain:

• Sleep

• Hormonal Imbalances

• Low Energy

• Weight Gain (esp. around the middle)

• Mood and Memory

• Aging

The Good News

● You can get treat these problems by altering brain neural networks, activation patterns & Brain wave states

● AND changes STICK--unlike trying to change the brain chemically ie drugs (only temporary)

Key Points

1. Why Problems in the body start in the brain2. Bangkok Superfoods and health food ‘imposters’3. LIVE brain DX 3D brain mapping demo: Neurofeedback in action

Dr. Dani Gordon MD, CCFP, ABIHM

• Brain Optimization & Neuro Nutrition Expert

• Youngest American Board Certified Doctor in Integrative Holistic

Medicine

• 1st Major Publication Lead Author age 23

• Yoga Researcher

What I Do:

Use Latest Brain Research + NeuroNutrition Protocols to Optimize:

● Sleep

● Weight Loss

● Hormones Balancing

● Energy Levels

● Concentration, Memory + Focus

● Immunity

● Digestion

● Stress & Anxiety Relief

My ToolKit

‘Brain Down’ Correction:

• Neurofeedback, eMRI brain imaging and brain retraining

• CBH- Cognitive Behavioural Hypnotherapy

• MBSR & CBT

My Toolkit

‘Body Up’• NeuroNutrition Protocols

• Customized Natural Supplements to Support Mitochondrial Energy, slow cellular aging

• Therapeutic (Medical) yogic techniques eg. ‘brain-breathing’

Why This Works.

• Last 100 Years Huge Advancements in Life expectancy

• Now issue is Quality of Life NOT life expectancy!

• Pills + Surgery Great for Acute Emergencies

• ‘Chronic’ issues’pill only’ approaches don’t correct root problems.

• Drug side effects, ‘covering up’ symptoms

What Does Work

• Brain Down & Body Up Protocols

• Work on Root Causes NOT ‘covering up’

• Fact: Over 80% Chronic Illness From Stress

• Underlying Brain & Cellular dysfunction

• Drugs & Surgery can’t fix

The HPA Axis

HPA Axis Problems

• HPA axis dysfunction from daily mental threats • High PM Cortisol (wrong!!)• LC (locus ceruleus) gets turned on at night• Low melatonin in evening (= poor sleep) • Lack of AM Serotonin peaking (groggy, grumpy)

HPA Axis Problems

• Ongoing HPA axis damage creates hormonal problems, mood symptoms• Turns off leptin-->’satiety switch’ = Metabolically Tummy fat (can’t lose it!)• HPO axis = PCOS, acne, ‘bad menopause’• HPT axis = Low Thyroid

Limbic System

Limbic System Hyperarousal

• Brain gets ‘stuck’ and cannot activate prefrontal cortex properly

• eg. underactive front left hemisphere in prefrontal cortex is related to depression

• Underactive right side related to anxiety

Wrong Brain Activation Pattern = Problems!

Problems with:

● Sustained Attention, memory and concentration● Emotional regulation● Sleep ● Fatigue● Thyroid ● Tummy Fat● Hormones● Aging

Good News...

• Brain mapping, qEEG, & eMRI shows exactly where problems are

• Train brain, change neural patterns/pathways = changes seen in the BODY

• NF helps guide which supplements needed (CEC, physiology analysis and ISI)

Specific qEEG patterns of Dysfunction:

● 4 main types of brainwaves qEEG focuses on: ○ Delta○ Theta○ Alpha○ Beta

Delta Waves

Tells us about brainstem, hypothalamus ie HPA function and overall brain integration.

a. High frontal delta = problems with regulating emotions, stressb. posterior high delta = memory issuesc. High delta relative to beta: ADHD

Theta Waves

• Memory and emotion • High T3: emotional processing difficulties• More theta in front vs. back esp. on right side: ADHD

Alpha Waves•

• Resource allocation--what areas are idling-too much idling=red.

• Frontal slowed alpha--metabolic issues• Problems ‘letting go’ or relaxing• Increased alpha left prefrontal cortex-depression

Beta Waves

• What areas of cortex is activating• Where using lots of glucose and oxygen. • Shifting tasks and processing speed• Low Beta-problems with underactivation, brain not working

hard enough (‘lazy brain’)

Magnitude

• Key mapping metric, relates to amplitude• High slow wave:fast wave ratio-attentional issues• Elevated beta in back--issues with emotional stability, mood

Brain Arousal Metrics

Used with ISI, CEC, physiology testing to tell if problem more likely due to:• Cortical damage OR Brain Activation Pattern Issue• Vs. Non-Cortical:

• nutritional deficiency• stimulants/drugs • emotional cause not yet affecting cortical activation

Insomnia QEEG Patterts

• Insomnia NOT simply lack of sleep

• Disorder of hyperarousal Present both Daytime & Night

Brain Mapping/qEEG:

• Increased levels of beta and gamma power• Emotional & Executive processing problems• Over-arousal patterns

How It Works: Neurofeedback ➔

➔ Brain Activity picked up by electrodes

➔ Surface potentials and Deep potentials to map what

brain is doing in ‘Real Time’

➔ Can change cortical with training how brain cells

‘talk’ to each other and what they ‘say’

➔ Based On Neruoplasticity

➔ Brain Unconsciously move towards Reward &

Stimulation

How It Works: Neurofeedback

➔ Changes Neurotransmitters, cellular processes,

body & behaviours

➔ No radiation or electricity to head/brain

➔ Learning is Permanent-Operant Conditioning and

Neuroplasticity

➔ Takes Motivation out of Equation

➔ Changes are trackable

The Brain Without Neurofeedback

• ‘Free Agent’

• Meeting it’s Own internal needs as sees fit

• Different Thalamic Setpoints for Stimulation ‘Needs’

• Brains goals NOT YOUR GOALS

• Brain Makes the Wrong Choice

1. CBH recordings2. MBSR practice3. Nutraceuticals: brain and body cells must have optimal

fuel to work at peak

How you can start changing brain activation patterns at home:

NeuroNutrition●

• Lack of Mitochondrial co-factors affect Brain Patterns

• CQ10 (Methylation)-Statins Deplete

• NAC (with Zinc)-Tylenol depletes!!

• Alpha Lipoic Acid with Acetyl-L-carnitine (electron

transport chain)

• D ribose

• Methylfolate

NeuroNutrition

• Hidden food intolerances: Dairy, Gluten, Wheat, Corn• Stimulants-Caffeine, Nicotine• CNS Depressants-Alcohol • Drugs & Drug Side Effects-Statins, CYP 450 metabolized drugs

Top Brain Foods

● Hemp hearts● Chia seeds● Holy/ Thai basil● Walnuts● Coconut-extra virgin oil● Fatty fish (salmon)● Pumpkin seeds● Frozen Berries● Deep Green Leafy Veggies

● Bison, Game meats (CoQ10)● S Pure Eggs (CoQ10)● Wheatgrass: easy to grow at home and juice it

fresh● Adaptogens:

○ Maca○ Reishi○ Cordyceps

‘Healthy’ Impostors-peanuts

• Canola oil• Margerine / 'butter spreads"• Fat free yoghurt• "Wheat" or "brown bread"• Peanut butter,peanuts• Non-organic green juice• Most fruit juices

● Eat your fruits, drink your veggies● Cows milk● Cereal and flavored quick pre packaged

oatmeal-plain is good, steel cut oats best● Pasta● Chemical sunscreens ege oxybenzone- use

Ti or Zn oxides

Top Brain Supplements

• Attention and Concentration: Cerebrum• Phytomulti-extra trace minerals, b vitamins, ala, Co Q 10, and mitochondrial co

factors, ecgc, polyphenol blend• Sleep: Benesom, Revitalizing Sleep formula: Look for GABA, L theonine, melatonin,

valerian, passionflower and hops• Hormones: Estrovera-special rhubarb extract ERr 731, a special extract of Siberian

rhubarb
