What is child labor?????

• LAW DEFINES CHILD LABOUR AS.......... under the act,CHILD means a person who has not completed his fourteenth year of age. any such person engaged for wages, whether in cash or kind, is a child worker. Now this age limit is increases up to 18 years old

Shoe factory

• in footwear industry Children are employed in the manufacture of shoes. Children between 10 and 15 years old are mainly employed in assembling. Children work on soling (fixing upper portions of shoes to leather or rubber soles with glue. Thus, most children suffer from respiratory problems, lung diseases and skin infections through constant exposure to glue and fumes.

Child Domestic Workers are children below the age of 18 years who are employed within households to perform chores. Most child domestic workers are They can be as young as four or five years old. Many child domestic workers are brought from villages to work in large cities.

• 1. Increased family incomes• 2. Education - that helps

children learn skills that will help them earn a living

• 3. Social services - that help children and families survive crises, such as disease, or loss of home and shelter

• 4. Family control of fertility - so that families are not burdened by children

What We Can Do To Stop Child Slavery

• We can donate to the Polaris Project which tries to prevent Child Slavery.

• Always ask the shop keeper how the clothing was made and by who.

• If it’s from a factory where kids are forced make them say NO! because you are giving the shop keeper an idea not to sell these products.

A story of a young boy who tried to stop child labor

• Iqbal Hassan was a child labor in Pakistan. His parents were too poor to afford food; they borrowed $16 in exchange for sending Iqbal to a carpet factory to work off the loan. Iqbal was only 4 years old. The children in the factory worked 14 hours a day, six days a week without any breaks. They were beaten and chained to their looms if they complained or tried to escape.

• When he was 10, Iqbal learned about a new law that forbade child labor. He left the factory, entered school, and began to speak out on behalf of children who still worked in factories. However Iqbal’s actions made many people angry; he was shot and killed in April 1995. Iqbal was only 12 years old when he died.
