CITYSCAPES

What is a cityscape?

Let’s look at some pictures of cityscapes.

We are going to make a

monoprint of a CITYSCAPE!

What is a MONOPRINT?

A design is drawn in ink or paint on any smooth surface. While the ink or

paint is still wet, a piece of paper is laid on top of it (or folded over it) and you press it with your hands. This makes it have a ONE OF A KIND PRINT.

Here is an example of a sailboat monoprint.

Do you see how the monoprint created a reflection made by the copy it created when it was folded in half?

We are going to do this except for we are making a CITYSCAPE.

Step 1: Fold your paper in half. Step 2: Draw a horizon line. Step 3: Draw the skyline of buildings

using your ruler! Step 4: Paint the outline of the buildings

and the horizon. Step 5: Fold the paper in half and press

the paper together to get a PRINT. Step 6: Open your paper and reveal

your picture!

After we do that, we will NEXT time do the following:

Use oil pastels to color in the buildings.

Use watercolors to color in the water.

Let’s get started!
