BrucenicholasisinthesameyearasBruceOpolsky.heisamemberofthefootballteamatBurdettLakehigh.
OnMay12,20**agroupofstudents,ledbytahiyaJaswal,createdaFacebookgroupfortheirschoolnewspaper,the Burdett Lake Bugle.Oneofthediscussionthreadsonthegroup’ssitewascalled“Bruceisacheater.”
intheinitialpost,tahiyaJaswal,theeditorofthenewspaper,wrotean‘exposé’about“Bruce.”initshewrote:
“Bruceisacheater.hetakestheeasywayoutofeverything.hepaidKirantofinishhisenglishreportandhecheatedduringhischemistryfinal.i’msurehedoesn’tcomebyanythinghonestly.hedoesn’tevenknowhowtowork–ibethe’sonsteroids.“
aftertahiya’spost,anumberofotherstudentscommentedaswell.Jordanpashawrote:

BurdettLakeisasmallhighschoolandmoststudentsknowbothBruces.LastyearBrucenicholaswasthepromKingandBruceOpolskyplacedsecondatOFsaaforwrestling.BothBrucesareregisteredingradetwelvechemistrythisyear.

Foranuntruestatementtobelibelorlibelous,itmustmeetthreecriteria:
