Advocate for yourself
Be sure you are communicating with your teacher if you have questions
Ask when there is tutoring/extra help
Email your teacher if you aren’t able to speak with them in class and when you are absent to
request missed work
Use Skyward, E-campus to stay on top of your assignments, attendance and grades
Make an appointment with your counselor if you have questions
In just 3 years you will be out of school as you know it. Life as a young adult can be challenging
if you don’t learn to advocate for yourself. So start now!
Grade Point Average
Each letter grade you earn has a point value associated with it
Un-weighted GPA- standard point scale for letter grades
Weighted GPA- higher points for a letter grade when you take honors, AP or Dual Enrollment
classes
GPA is only calculated from final (semester grades) not using quarter grades
Advanced PlacementA = 5 pointsB = 4 pointsC = 3 pointsD = 1 pointF = 0 Points
HonorsA = 4.5 pointsB = 3.5 pointsC = 2.5 pointsD = 1 pointF = 0 Points
StandardA = 4 pointsB = 3 pointsC = 2 pointsD = 1 pointF = 0 Points
Grade forgiveness is when you repeat a class you had a D/F in and make a “C” or higher; the
new grade gets calculated in your GPA. The old grade is removed from your GPA.

Testing this year
PSAT
This is a great tool to show you how you would do on the SAT
Use your score reports to help identify what areas you need to focus on
The PSAT will give you access to online resources through the College Board to help you study for the
SAT, as well as help prepare you for college.
FSA ELA (Reading Assessment)-this will be given in the Spring
You must take the Writing and Reading test (3 days of testing)
You must pass the FSA ELA with a level 3 to meet graduation requirements
EOC’s- Geometry & Biology 30% of your final grade
What do I focus on this year?
Keep your grades up. Make sure you are talking with your teachers, attend
tutoring/extra help if needed. Check Skyward to know what your grades are.
If you are thinking about going to college you should begin your community
service hours. The process has changed so be sure to see your counselor for
more information.
If you have not already started a foreign language plan to start one during
your Junior year. 2 years is required for admission to a University and for the
Bright Futures Scholarship.
When you take the PSAT this year really do your best on it so you know what
areas you should focus on for when you take the SAT next year (Junior year).
If you have any questions about your grades, attendance, or credits please
email or make an appointment to see your counselor.
