BOARD VOTES TO RE-NAME BASEBALL FIELD IN HONOR OF MICHAEL MESA
The Stafford Municipal School
District made history last month
when the SMSD Board of Trustees
voted 6-0 to name the District’s
baseball field, “Michael Mesa Field.”
The field will be officially dedicated
on Feb. 16, 2019.
Michael Mesa was a proud Stafford
MSD Graduate who returned to his
alma mater as a coach and Spanish
Teacher. He became one of the
youngest varsity head baseball
coaches in the state. Shortly after
his second season as head coach,
he passed away unexpectedly at
age 26, in 2016.

SMSD TEACHER SPOTLIGHT: STEPHANY GARCIA
Congratulations to Stafford Middle School Teacher of
the Month (December) Stephany Garcia.
Ms. Garcia, who teaches Art, is in her fourth year with
Stafford MSD and also teaches high school students.
"I have always been into art -- it helps us connect with
the world," Garcia said.
...Garcia grew up in West Columbia and in the Rio
Grande Valley.
She earned a degree in Fine Arts/Fashion
Merchandising from Texas State University.
DECEMBER TEACHERS OF THE MONTH
STAFFORD MSD BOARD APPROVES UP TO $550,000 IN BOOK
PURCHASES FOR SMSD LIBRARY
The Stafford Municipal School District Board of Trustees voted to approval a
substantial investment for literacy on Monday night.
They voted 5-0 to approve up to $550,000 in new book purchases for
students in Grades Pre-K through 12. Former Board President Auturo Jackson
made the motion and Trustee Manuel Hinojosa, a Stafford MSD graduate,
seconded the motion.
“Stafford MSD has a total commitment to the literacy of all of our students,”
Stafford MSD Board President Christopher Caldwell said. “This vote will go a
long in way toward establishing the resources that our students need, in
order to be successful.”

The first Super Senior 55+
Breakfast of 2019 will be
held at 8:30 a.m. on Friday,
January 11.

month.
STAFFORD DADS CLUB ELECTS OFFICERSThe Stafford Dads Club elected officers:

Stafford MSD was honored to participate in the Share Your Holidays
Food Drive on Friday. The event was held in partnership with ABC
Channel 13 & the Houston Food Bank.
Stafford MSD appeared on the front page of the Fort Bend Independent
for its efforts in this event.

SHS BOYS SOCCER WINS SEASON OPENERThe Stafford High Boys Soccer Team,
defending District Champions with
Regional Semifinals appearances in
2016 and 2018, opened the 2019
season with a 5-0 victory over Class
5A Fort Bend Marshall on Thursday
afternoon.
The Spartans scored four of their five
goals in the second half. Jesus Iniguez
led the way with two goals and an
assist.
GIRLS BASKETBALL TO HOST NEEDVILLE TONIGHT
The Stafford High Girls Basketball
Team (8-9) will resume District 25-
4A Competition tonight vs.
Needville.
The Lady Spartans will visit
Brookshire Royal on Tuesday (Jan.
8) and host Sealy on Friday (Jan.
11)
STAFFORD BOYS BASKETBALL TO HOST NEEDVILLE
The Stafford High Boys Basketball
Team will host its first District 25-4A
home game of the season when it
welcomes Needville to the SHS
Competition Gym tonight.
The Spartans defeated Class 6A
Belton at the Buda Tournament,
near Austin, during the Christmas
Break.
