Communicating Student Learning:The Uncharted Path

Welcome! Please sit in your school teams.

The trick to having good ideas is not to sit around in glorious isolation and try to think big thoughts. The trick is to get more parts on the table.

Steven Johnson

Good ideas may not want to be free, but they do want to connect, fuse, recombine. They want to reinvent themselves by crossing conceptual borders. They want to complete each other as much as they want to compete.

Steven Johnson

Innovation is messy. It’s about constructive conflict — not agreement. There are twists and turns — not straight lines.

Jeff DeGraff

What is the purpose of a report card?

Research Grounded

…the most powerful single moderator that enhances achievement is feedback. The simplest prescription for improving education must be "dollops of feedback" -- providing information how and why the child understands and misunderstands, and what directions the student must take to improve.

John Hattie, 1999

What is “dollops of feedback”?

Formative assessment is an opportunity to peek inside learners’ heads while they are in the process of learning.

Helps teachers and learners alike answer the question, “What do I do next?”

G. O Martin-Kniep, 2009

Are you ready?Do you use:
