A Message from BishopMark W HolmerudRegarding Re-openingChurches in Californiaand Nevada
A few days ago, Bp. Guy Erwin of the
Southwest California Synod, Bp. Andy
Taylor of the Pacifica Synod and I wrote a
joint letter advising against re-opening
our churches last weekend, in spite of the
President’s declaration that this should
happen. We felt some urgency in
responding to what we believed was an
ill-advised statement, given all the
medical evidence that the COVID-19
virus is still spreading. This week, the
death toll across our country reached
100,000 people lost to this disease. To
date, 100,000 people in California and
nearly 8,000 people in Nevada have been
infected with Coronavirus, with nearly
15,000 new cases reported in California
this past week alone. Such statistics
testify that this is not the time to re-
open. Read more...
New Leader Needed forCommunity Table
After over 8 years of leading Community
Table, our fearless leader is moving away
and we are in need of a new leader and
more volunteers. The leader makes the
schedule to make sure there are enough
volunteer each week, and the current
leader is happy to train the new leader
over the next few months. Volunteers
arrive around 4:00 PM and are done by
6:15 PM. This is a great opportunity for
students to earn community service
hours. One can volunteer for one week a
month or as many as they wish. If
interested please call Catherine Holmes
at 408-607-5202.
In-Person Spiritual
Care
If you would like to speak with or visit
with Pastor Anita or Vicar Brandon,
please continue to contact us by email or
phone. Pastor Anita will make in-person
visits where we can be outside and have
physical distance. We hold you all in our
prayers.
Our Mission and YourFaith Story
In our recent Stewardship Committee
meeting on May 14, we discussed how
Changed Lives, Changing Lives, through
Christ’s Love is a mission statement that
we hope everyone in the congregation is
aware of and considers to be central in
their lives. If this statement is truly core
to our lives, we should be able to say how
our lives have been changed forever by
our commitment to follow Jesus Christ.
What is your personal experience? How
have you been empowered in your life by
becoming a follower of Jesus and
participating in our community of faith?

California invites you to join the

legislation. The briefing is led by LOPP-
CA Director, Regina Banks, and ELCA
World Hunger Fellow, Nicole Newell.

Bible Study on the HolySpirit
The Spirit is manifested in diverse ways
in the holy scriptures – and in today’s
world. This study will consider the
witness of many different sections of the
Old and New Testaments about the
Spirit, who still comes into the fractures
of our personal, social and political lives
to awaken, transform and reconcile. All
are invited to attend this study led by
Pastor Anita on Wednesday evenings at
7:00 PM, beginning June 3. Visit
https://us02web.zoom.us/j/813107
95227 to join the Bible study via Zoom.
El Camino RealConference does BibleStudy
All over our conference, the faithful are
gathering to study God’s Word and grow
in faith. The blessing of being moved
online for our Bible Study means that
everyone in an El Camino Real
Conference congregation now has greater
ability to collaborate in ministry. In
partnership, we have 14 different
opportunities for Bible Study over 5 days
of the week. All are welcome at any time.
If you have questions or would like help
connecting, please contact your pastor.

page. Note that in addition to electronic
transfers, debit and credit cards giving
options are also now available. You may
also mail an offering to Advent Lutheran

Second QuarterMission
Advent's second quarter mission will be
Rockpoint Mission. Few know the
challenges greater by hunger, drought,
job security or loss like the Navajo.
COVID-19 has made life even more
difficult for the community. For 65 years
Navajo Lutheran mission (better known
locally as Rockpoint mission) has
partnered with the Navajo people to be
an outpost of love and hope. Every day
the 100% Navajo staff feed the hungry,
prioritize learning for grades K-6 and
focus on fulfilling basic community
needs. They teach the way of Jesus,
listening to one another, helping one
another to stretch their capacity to
become the people that God needs in this
time and place. Read more about
Rockpoint Mission. Please prayerfully
consider giving to the Rockpoint mission
as, again COVID-19 has made life even
more difficult.
For more information on Rockpoint
mission please contact Kathy Panzica at
831–801–1511 or email kathyjpanzica
@gmail.com, or visit nelm.org
(Navajo Evangelical Lutheran mission).
Thank you for your prayers and
consideration.
