Most common causes of workplace fire –

Minimum aisles shall be maintained free of storage.
Storage guidelines are applicable to all locations .
Unsealed penetration for boiler & generator room is very risky.

Fire extinguisher having a gross weight not exceeding 18.14 kg
shall not installed so that the top of fire extinguisher is not more
than 5 ft above the floor.
Fire extinguisher having a gross weight greater than 18.14 kg shall
be installed so that the top of the fire extinguisher is not more than
3 ft
Fire extinguisher identification signs shall be posted nearby fire
extinguisher to easily identify the location.
Portable fire extinguisher shall be placed near the path of exit
travel and it shall be easily acceptable.
Extinguisher shall be placed one for per 550 square ft.

If the same floor is provided with sprinkler, detectors can be eliminated.
Multi sector detectors are recommended on the sewing, cutting, iron, finishing and other areas. Where there is a possibility of floating fabric dust, threads & cotton etc. to avoid false alarm.

At least 2.Exit remain free of smoke & fire. Doors shall be kept free from all locking machine.Maximum travel distance for each an exit from any point shall not
exceed 45 meter. Travel distance limitation shall be increased to 60 m (200 ft) where a
complete automatic fire detection system, portable fire extinguishers and stand pipe system are provided in accordance with this standard.
Travel distance limitation shall be increased 122m (400 ft) where a complete automatic sprinkler system, automatic fire alarm system & portable fire extinguishers are provided in accordance with this standard.
If the room has two exits but they are very close to each other, it only counts as one exit.

With automatic sprinkler exit in each room should be separated by at least 1/3 of the diagonal dimension of the room.

Spitting & putting garbage outside the bin is a punishable offence. Keep worksite, walkways, stairways & equipment clean & free. Don’t block open door. Don’t stand anything unstable. Don’t stack files or papers too high. Ensure light availability. Proper ventilation . Drinking water availability . When working on machinery take the time to follow all layout and
tag out procedure. Keep all materials and equipment in proper storage areas when
not in use. If you see a hazard, clean it or alert a supervisor. Don’t allow
someone to get hurt.

Slip falls no laughing matter. Slippery floors as a factors in most slip falls. So we need safe floors.
