FEELING STUFFED? CHECKLIST

Busy social calendars during the party season can make it difficult to keep count of how much alcohol we are consuming. While a glass of mulled wine can be enjoyed in moderation, there are serious risks to excessive drinking including liver damage, cancer and alcohol dependence. It’s important for your patients to know their limits.
Here’s a quick reminder of the HSE guidelines for MAXIMUM alcohol consumption per week:
Standard drinks should be spaced out over the week and should never be saved up to drink in one sitting.
These weekly limits do not apply to teenagers or to people who are pregnant, ill, run-down or on medication.
One drink may not always equal a standard drink as described above. A full pint, is two standard drinks, while a bottle of wine is about seven standard drinks.
Swap pints for
a half-pint size
Avoid getting into rounds with friends
Avoid alcohol before going
out
Alternate drinks with
water or non-alcoholic
options
