THE

STORY

OF

Overview

This workshop was set up to engage the Aerospace SME and Primes community in and around Copenhagen with the intention of stimulating communication, knowledge sharing, collaboration and the co-creation of creative ideas while building awareness of our SME-AERO-POWER project and the approach we are taking.

We ran the event on a Thursday from 09:30 – 16:00 which proved quite a hurdle to get attendees to give up their time, and trust that the experience would be worthwhile.

The event was advertised on Eventbrite, Twitter, Facebook and across various related LinkedIn Groups together with many personal approaches to individuals we thought should attend.

What follows is a brief summary of the event...

OBJECTIVES OF THIS WORKSHOP

The workshop objectives are for you to experience . .

1 NETWORKING

To show how exchanging “stories” is a quick and effective way to understand the main themes within a complex situation.

2 COLLABORATING

To provide a ‘taste’ of some of the techniques we use with companies in our project and so help them to innovate by working more effectively with others.

. . CONSIDER JOINING SME-AERO-POWER

To interest you in joining the SME Aero-Power project (not just for those already in the Aerospace supply chain).

What is

Open Innovation?

Networking part 1, At your table, take 5 minutes to discuss this question - then I will collect some answers . .

Asked as a question for brief discussion in pairs, then ideas collected and written down by facilitator, to illustrate a more traditional approach to facilitation.

6

What is Open Innovation?

7

What has been your experience when trying to cooperate or

partner with another company?

ANECDOTE CIRCLE - This is another way to network with people at your table, to answer this question . .

Anecdote Circles are a Cognitive Edge method http://cognitive-edge.com/library/methods/anecdote-circles/

8

Two groups of six share their stories

9

Title (blue) and each individual's perspective on that story (white) are captured

10

An example of one story

11

Titles are removed. Cards are shuffled. Patterns emerge as themes, which are then named.

12

Examples of themes – contextualised by the white perspectives.

These themes are emergent and contextualised by the white perspectives.

They help define and make sense of the Innovation Ecosystem being explored

13

Emergent Themes – River Diagram

Using the emergent themes from the anecdote circle the group plotted where they thought Denmark/Copenhagen was today for each on a scale of 0 – 10.

COLLABORATING

COLLABORATION &

INNOVATIVE THINKING

- collaborating is more than networking: it involves doing something together and demands a degree of trust

- this first technique is called SpeedStorming: how to find a number of opportunities for innovation in a short time by sharing ideas with other people

15

2 x twenty five minute sessions in pairs, looking for collaborative opportunities

Each person briefly explains what they bring and what they are interested in

then the pair look to combine these interests and expertise to 'co-create'

something new.

16

COLLABORATING

INNOVATION

BOOSTING

- takes a good idea and accelerates the process of finding out how to turn it into reality

- Innovation Boosting takes some time, so today we can only start the process by using a small number of techniques

“I think the event was rather interesting and a new way of swapping ideas that I as an industrial designer was quite inspired by.

I have participated in quite a lot of workshops , but this was one of the better.”
